City/hwy mixed driving. I am very surprised by the fuel efficiency of the p300 motor. The fact that I have the d90 which is slightly lighter might also contribute to the efficiency.
I drove from the Catskills mountains to Westchester county this week and I averaged 25 mpg and part of my journey included many local country roads.

Pangaea green in my opinion is equally gorgeous as Tasman blue. If I didn't go for Tasman blue, Pangaea green would have been my choice!

Anybody getting 24/25mpg out of a Defender is doing things differently than me, that's for sure!
Granted, mine's a D110, P400, but if I leave the computer without resetting for several months, which will encompass 2500-3000 miles of every kind of driving (except off-roading, usually) for me, I NEVER see more than 17 mpg. On a single-tank, 300+ mile, nearly all-interstate trip to the beach, I can show 19-20,, but I've never finished the trip over 20, because the last 20 minutes is on 4-lane surface roads with a few stoplights, and if I'm barely over 20 that's enough to pull it to the high-19s.

I think the following factors play a role in the difference in mpg:
- p300 vs p400 (4 cyl vs 6 cyl)
- d90 lighter than d110
- d90 carries less cargo than d110

The EPA rates the 4 cyl 90 at 18/21, combined 19, and the 6 cyl 110 at 17/22, combined 19. And I don't carry anything in my 110 except a wife about 1/3 of the time.

Actual mpg that's higher than the epa rating is not uncommon. Though not an ICE example, but one of the recent ones is the electric mini Cooper SE. The epa rating is 114 miles but in actuality it's quite a bit higher than that (more like 140 miles) according to many actual owners including myself.

Yes, that is often how the real world compares to EPA. And in this case, you get better, I get worse, and I don't think it's because of the relative size and engine of the trucks, even though historically that would have been a factor. In the case of the L663, no matter which variant or which gas engine one gets, they seem to drink gas at essentially the same rate, with city driving very slightly favoring the 4/cyl 90 and highway favoring the 6 cyl 110 (must be the aero of the longer package giving it a small advantage, more than offsetting the slight weight advantage of the 90.)
And then I start driving the 110 and mileage goes to hell.
