Default New software update

My 2023 defender 110 said it’s downloaded the new update. But it will not complete the install. What gives? I’ve done at least 4 updates since new.

What is the version number on the update you downloaded?

I’ve found my updates don’t install after downloading because the battery is low. I now use a trickle charger and haven’t had that problem. I only drive mine once or twice a week.

For what it is worth, the latest version I received, downloaded and to install, it says lock the vehicle and it will take about 35 minutes. (battery not an issue here).
I double locked and the next morning - failed to install.
Second attempt, just single locked the car and it was installed the next morning.
Perhaps because the double lock shuts down electronics is what is stopping the update, where a single lock does not shut down the electronics immediately.

I'm still stuck at the 4.2.X on my 2023 Defender 90 P400 engine and never got any update since May 2025 (4.2X that I updated was already outdated when I receive OTA update) and dealer is saying that if OTA does not enable the newer updates, they can't force install any newer versions.

Not sure if single or double-locking has any effect on the install, as I have installed all of my previous updates, over four years worth, when my vehicle has been double-locked. Maybe just a coincidence, weak signal or connection, or battery was a touch low. FWIW, this is from the manual and it does not make mention of single or double-locking, just that vehicle must be locked and alarmed.

Low 12v has been the probable cause for me every time an update has failed on all of cars that have an OTA capability. Whenever an update failed to install, it has always worked right after a little time on the trickle charger.

That's worth a try for me. I've always thought it might be the battery but your suggestion makes way more sense.

In no hurry to do any downloads again- last one I did on my wife's V8 basically bricked it and it had to be flat towed to the dealer because it wouldn't shift out of second. I'll wait for a few others to be the guinea pigs...
