Default No tint

Hi All,

I am thinking about removing all tint and going with clear windows all around. When I got my 90 (hykuba silver with black top and 19"), I ended up tinting the front windows to match. This was a lease that has now come to an end. Due to the fact that the 90 I can now only be ordered only at the highest spec, I have decided to purchase my lease. So, now I want to make some changes. I am thinking of getting it wrapped (color change to a satin black maybe) adding muddflaps and removing the tint all around. The only photos I have seen are off the Bowler Defender rally truck , which look pretty cool IMO, and my inspiration for the final look. I already have the spare tire removed. Has anyone removed the tint from the rear windows?

If I’m not mistaken, those windows are factory tinted glass, and not an applied tint and would not be able to be removed.

I believe WTFChuck is correct - my 2025 Defender came with no added window tint, but the rear passenger windows and the rear tail gate window were tinted glass - I had to have the dealer add a almost matching tint to the front driver and passenger windows to match. If you look closely at the rear window, you can see the heating element on the surface of the glass, there is no applied tint on top of the defroster elements. In my experience, if you have window tint applied over the defroster elements, it is very difficult to remove the tint without damaging the elements.

Correct - all US spec Defenders come with rear privacy glass as standard. Only way around this would be ordering clear glass from a dealer overseas, and that's a hassle I wouldn't want to deal with.

Too bad for me. I think the no tint look is classic.

I've been thinking of doing this on my 90 for a while now as well. I Live in California and it's hot so I just haven't pulled the trigger yet...

WTFChuck is right that all defenders sold in North America come with 'tinted' rear glass and that the entire windows needs to be replaced.

Reached out to Landleaping a while ago and they gave me the following part numbers, I believe 'less privacy glass' 'green tint' is the option we're looking for. Never got around to asking my local dealer but it seemed like they were able to order it.

Rear Quarter:
LR184784 - LH, Less Privacy Glass, Large, TO VIN END P2197956
LR132087 - RH, Less Privacy Glass, Large, TO VIN END P2197956

Safari Glass:
This one is a bit trickier as we are only presented with two options; The factory-spec parts confirmed by VIN (LR132458 + LR132450) or 'Less Privacy Glass' parts that are shown to pre-date your VIN range. The parts that are notated as 'Less Privacy Glass' but are shown to be intended for earlier models:

LR132455 - LH, Less Privacy Glass, TO VIN END L2001993
LR132447 - RH, Less Privacy Glass, TO VIN END L2001993

Rear Glass:
LR182548 - Less Privacy Glass, Seal Included, FROM VIN L2999999 TO VIN END R2197280

I wouldn't worry about replacing the Alpine Windows, as when viewed from the side, you can't actually see into the vehicle, you just see the black plastic cutout. It wouldn't make much of a difference. Plus, if you have a sunroof, that is always tinted.

Agree that clear glass is a cool look and they should just offer it there in the US!

That said, I’m getting older and I actually appreciate the UV and light benefits of tinted glass. I tint my front windows to match. Whenever I”m in one of my old cars with clear glass (an old Porsche, an old Mercedes, and a Range Rover Classic, all of which have clear glass) -- I realize that even though I like the look, in practical terms, on sunny days, I really dislike clear glass. In fact after awhile driving I really get annoyed with it, even in the winter when it’s not hot. I feel like I can feel the skin damage occurring in real time. So... it is worth mentioning there are actual practical benefits to the tint.

Another practical point is the UV not blasting the plastics and leather bits and breaking them down. I too have a number of classics that are not tinted but have covers or in a garage but when I take them out I feel like Im in a fish bowl and being baked alive.
