Default Oil Change - Too Long?

I did a search and couldn't find anything specific so my apologies if this has been asked before: How often are people changing the oil in their Defenders? 21k or 2 years seems way too long for me. I did my first change at 18k before a road trip so it was a little early, now i'm thinking I may want to keep it to a more regular schedule - unless that is a waste of $ ? What is the consensus and if I do it more often, then an indy shop for that should be OK I am assuming?

Personally, I did mine at 9,500 miles, and will continue with ~10k intervals. I will essentially use my service plan for every other visit to follow the JLR recommendations.

We’ve been doing 10,000 miles also.

since the oil is pumped out and not drained that adds to a level of “I don’t trust that _____” : )

Had the dealer do my first oil change at 3,400 miles. I never leave the factory oil in more than 5k miles. I also don't use the bulk oil at the dealers, I bought their Castrol Edge Pro 0-20 Synthetic at the parts counter.

I get mine changed annually - I don't do a lot of miles but 2 years seems too much for me. Every 12 months / 10,000 miles seems a decent compromise between too long and wasting oil

i do an oil and filter change along with a tire rotate and balance every 5000 miles. I used too change every 3000 before synthetics, but these are better oils and can go longer. I believe the factory recommendation is rubbish designed only to get the car through the warranty period and not much longer.

Same, changed the factory oil at 1,000 and will do my next changes every 5,000 miles. Maybe unnecessary, but it’s a 15min job with an extractor and the price of oil is relatively inexpensive insurance for a car I hope to keep 10+ years.

Oli and filter changed at 5,000 miles and will now be annually (around 10,000 miles intervals)

No way l am leaving it 21,000 miles between oli changes.

I have 2 Defenders:
  • the first one (P400) had it done at 21,000 miles since that’s what was recommended by the dealership
  • the second one (P525) had the first oil change at the 1 year anniversary (9900 miles) but I’ll do the second one at 21,000 miles.

Honestly the dealer told me it was fine to wait until the 21,000 for the first one so I did. No issues but then again it’s only used for occasional driving and nothing too fancy.
