Default Ordered a flat bottom leather carbon fiber steering wheel / seller canceled today?

The vender/seller cancelled my steering wheel order today.

Anyone have any good sources or suggestions or links to venders offering custom steering wheels for Defenders?

Mine is a v8 so it has paddle shifters, the one I ordered has been canceled by the seller since they could not find a core compatible with my paddle shifters.

This is the wheel I had ordered.

It was to be a Carbon Fiber Nappa leather flat bottom design.

I am just not all that crazy about all Alcantara wheel that came on the Defender V8.

I don't really like Alcantara on a steering wheel at all. My TRX that I recently sold after owning it a little over 3 years had a partial Alcantara steering wheel, never did like it.
Thought I would swap this wheel out right from the start on the Defender.

Even a 100% leather would be fine, or what I was really looking for was a leather wood combo.
This is what I was looking for when I settled on the carbon fiber leather combo.
This is a wheel for a RAM Laramie limited truck. But is the style I was looking for.
Or something similar with a dark wood leather combination.

Have you looked at Hunters Prestige? They seem to have a lot of options:

Edit: Sorry I didn't read "this service is only available for fitment at our HQ in Thetford.", so if your in the US it's back to the drawing board! Or maybe email them, saying you have the paddle shifters, so no programming needed and if it's possible for yourself to fit.

Powerful UK Ltd. is fantastic. They have an excellent youtube channel and their customer service is top notch. I was lucky to spend some time with the owners, Simon and Carolyn when I popped across the pond for the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Wonderful company run by an even better group of people. I cannot speak highly enough of them.

I am not sure that applies to me, mine already had paddle shifters since it is the V8 model.
I did look at those and then found one that looked the same for half the price on ebay, however price is not an issue if they can't build it.
If these guys do have them in stock as their website suggest it might be worth it to go this route.

Defender L663 Sports Steering Wheel- Flat Bottom – Hunters Prestige

One of our earliest plans for an upgrade to the Defender interior was an improved steering wheel with a sportier look and feel. We have two finishes currently available: Alcantara and Full nappa Leather. Both versions are hand-finished to an incredibly high standard and will complement the existing interior perfectly. We have designed them to improve upon the look and feel of the OE wheel, being slightly thicker and incorporating motorsport-inspired thumb grips and a flat bottom.

Our wheels are designed to be compatible with both the heated steering wheel option, and the V8-style paddle shifters.
  • Build in heated function
  • Can be with or without paddle shifters
United States (USD $)

It let me order it.
So I did.
We will see what happens.

Hunters Prestige is another great company. I've ordered several items from both Hunters and PowerfulUK.

Well, I am not sure if it was pure coincidence or not, but Hunters inventory was wrong and they don't have the flat bottom carbon fiber perf Napa wheel either. Hmmmmmm
I am still not sure if they source them from the same place I ordered from on ebay for half the cost but the results were the same neither palce has one and neither source can tell me when they will get one. LOL

Anyway Hunters did say they had the same wheel without the flat bottom in stock.
So I guess I am going to go that route, since my main goal was really just to get rid of the Alcantara.
The wheel I am now getting should look like this.

Got $130+ Refund for the difference and the round version should be shipping out tomorrow.

I think I had said that I also got mine from Hunters - but kept the alcantara sides. I also had to wait about a month from them to come back into stock...so I guess it just depends on how much of a hurry you are in! Also, its not exactly the most straight forward swap to do, and though you are paying more from Hunters - if you run into trouble they will be able to help! You basically have to move all the stuff from one wheel over to the other and not sure if you got the CF faceplate or not as well....

Yea, Thanks.
I think it was after seeing your custom steering wheel pics, and checking out hunters, that got me shopping for a new wheel for mine.

Hunters only gave me a couple options that were in stock, and no time table for when more like I ordered to be back in stock. They did not give me the option of waiting it out.
My options were flat bottom with Alcantara or standard round carbon fiber with perferoated leather like I had ordered.

Since my primary goal in buying a new wheel was to get away from the Alcantara that came on my V8 90 , I went with the round and leather.
Their website had showed the one I wanted as in stock, just turned out it was an inventory error.
They gave the option of the two in stock options or a refund.
‘I think I will be happy with round carbon fiber Napa perf leather.

I 100% agree communication with Hunters has been excellent just anyone in the US should be mindful of the time difference. lol
Response to my initial order and the stock issue came through my email over night .

The EBay order was very clear I was dealing with some time zone issues with China but also some language barriers as well.

No language issues at all with Hunters. Much easier and clearer communication with Hunters.

I gave Hunters my model info when I ordered the wheel, I hope if there were extra parts needed they would tell me.

I was planning take mine to a local European mechanics shop to have the wheel swapped out. I don’t want to risk blowing up an air bag or creating any problems trying to install myself.
I still have a steering wheel puller tool somewhere out in my shop, I just have not used it since the early 90s prior to everything coming with airbag systems. lol 😂
