I think there's at least fighting chance it might for the reasons you suggested.

As an aside, Land Rover pushed 2.1.6 to my car today as a no-intervention/no-need-to-accept anything update. So now I'm ready for 3.0

Agree with others that Apple Maps has improved a lot, and particularly so with iOS 15.

Given that these vehicles are nowhere close to autonomous, I really worry about the extent to which things like adaptive speed control coupled with this lane centering function, for example, may significantly reduce driver focus on the task of driving. It sounds like a terrible idea to me. I don't even use cruise control because of the inevitable reduction in driver engagement.

No one is confusing lane centering with autonomous driving, mate... It's just a nice to have in the right conditions like low speed stop congested traffic.

And as an aside to my earlier aside, version 2.1.6 has restored the speed and snappiness - the last update pushed to my car clearly had issues and it ran like molasses rolling uphill in January... It could take a minute or two of driving before everything was fully accessible. With 2.1.6 (at least so far) everything fires up quickly and works right away.

I wasn't suggesting that anyone was confusing them. I was suggesting that the less that the driver is actually driving the car, the less situational awareness the driver is likely to have. Once you remove speed control and steering control from the driver, that doesn't leave much.

We are probably going to get Amazon Alexa in a future update.

Don’t forget it’s Land Rover we’re talking about.

So we’ll probably get apps for MySpace, Webvan, Ask Jeeves and pets.com

Sounds like this isn't for you, but it also sounds like you don't know what these features do. Lane centering does not remove steering control from the driver.
