What do you guys do for washing your Defender? I spent a little time going through the manual and noticed something on page 330.
USING AN AUTOMATIC WASH: Commercially operated, automatic car washes, jet washes, and power operated mops are not recommended. Using such cleaning equipment can cause damage to the vehicle.
Is this just a precaution? Both my wife and I use an automatic wash regularly ($30/month for unlimited uses) and have been doing so for years. This includes a variety of vehicles, too. As a reminder, her Defender has the satin finish wrap, our first vehicle so equipped.

I always hand wash, but I do go to an automatic car wash periodically throughout the winter to clean off the undercarriage. I have a full ceramic coating and partial PPF on my Defender and haven't had any issues with paint swirling. With the full satin wrap, using an automatic car wash is perfectly fine. Plus, if you do get any scratches in the wrap, leave it in the sun for a few hours and it will self-heal.
PERFECT! That is exactly the answer I was looking for. The BMW we just traded had PPF on the hood, front fenders, etc. It is an amazing product. On one highway journey some debris hit the hood and scraped the PPF on the leading edge of the hood. About half the size of a shirt button. I was so disgusted and spent a few days thinking about how to fix it. About a week later I was in the garage and tried to find the mark and it had disappeared! I guess there is something good to say about our Texas summers after all. PPF is pure magic.
You might want to search this forum for how to run the Defender through a car wash. There were some pretty detailed instructions and things to watch out for, like moving from N to D or some such. I was ours at the local do it yourself hose and brush, so didn't pay too much attention to it. Nice Defender BTW!
What is this? I even went through the manual and couldn't locate anything about it. It doesn't open (thought maybe sunglass holder) and/or seem to have any function.
Running the Defender through a touchless carwash shouldn't be a problem - my wife takes ours through one every week during the winter to get the salt off.
