Hi Mark,

No, I wasn't at that particular event. I was thinking of something else that was Defender specific.

In regard to the L460- it definitely has a different feel than the L405. More intimate and a bit more sporty in driving position. It could be a step in the right direction or the wrong direction depending on how you feel about the current model.

My take is that given supply and demand right now you can't really go wrong putting down a deposit. If you decide it's not a fit for you down the road then you'll be able to get out of it easily and recoup your investment.

Having spent a good amount of time with L460 I must say the sound levels and ride quality are superb-it should wow the motoring press. The new V8 responds amazingly and has tremendous thrust. Parallel parking is also a bit easier now with the new rear steering system.

Hope this helps!

The new one is a far cry from the old beaters I used to drive back home in Ireland. Farm vehicles I got to muck a bout in.

For where I use it and for what I need, the Defender ticks all the boxes. It's an absolute beast and has opened up a whole swath of new places to explore and play in that my last vehicle (a very much abused and overburdened 2WD Acura MDX) could not.

Beautiful picture! Wish we got that type of snowfall in the UK. Reminds me of a vacation I took 15 years ago to a ski resort called Stowe in the US state of Vermont.

Glad you found a vehicle you really enjoy. It looks great with that roof rack.

Autonation shows a whole bunch of 2023 Defenders "in transit", half of which are already "Pending Sale".

Most JLR dealers would show them as available - and most, if not all, are not. Until money changes hands, the dealer can list it as "for sale" , but the vast majority have already names on them. If the person who has the order, does not qualify for a loan, or they change their mind, then that becomes for sale, or the next person in line grabs it (most cases for the "orphans").
In many instances, quite a few dealers are jacking up the prices stupidly. Making a quick buck now, and creating a bad name for themselves and a bad perception of the brand.
I wish JLR would do what Ford and GM did and let the dealers know that this is not ok. I also know that this is offer and demand, but ... people remember !

Insider -

One other question that would be interesting to get your perspective on. It's clear that there are options that are able to be activated after production where equipment is installed but the feature wasn't optioned by the purchaser.

What's Land Rovers view on this activity? Has JLR thought about a program that would allow these features to be activated by a dealer for a fee? Seems like a potential opportunity to increase revenue for the dealer and JLR.

Yes this happens automatically in their system even when cars are in transit. The dealer told me my car got 15-20 calls a day when it was being prepped and offers of $25k over MSRP. I'd be quite frustrated if I was someone looking for a regular old defender trying to figure out who has inventory that is unspoken for.

Default Order Timing Confirmation

I placed an order in Ohio, USA in early January of 2022 and was told I would probably receive an allocation for my 110 P400 X Dynamic SE build (Fuji white/black contrast roof) from the dealer in February 2022, since they didn’t have a waitlist for allocation.

This forum mentions zero P400 allocations were accepted for Feb 2022, but my dealer confirmed today my order was allocated and provided a Last Amendable Date of 3/25/2022 and a Delivery Date of 8/29/2022.

Is anyone able to confirm they received an order/build confirmation being accepted for P400 and/or if any were actually allocated across US dealers this month? The alternative is someone else dropped from an allocation from a prior month and my sales rep plugged me in as next in line?

Any insight would be appreciated — thank you!

I placed an order in Sep '21 for a D90 P400 X Dynamic and was notified in January that my order would be slotted for one of the Feb allocations (0 allocations in Jan). I then received notification in very early Feb that my last amendable date is 2/9, build date is sometime in March, and delivery is sometime in May. There's A LOT more to that story since when I was first notified I was told that, although they (the dealer) had finally received an allocation, all 16 were for 110's.

Apparently this hasn't been reflected in "the system" yet or communicated to all of the dealerships...or the dealer is straight up lying to me...or all of the above.

Here are my beauties. 110 2.4Tdci diesel that doesn't have a DPF or need an AD Blue and the new 110 P400 petrol that has enough power and comfort in any situation. I like them both a lot.
