Default Painting 2025 Defender Bumpers / Plastic trim

Just ordered a 2025 110s in Santorini black. I would like to have the front and rear “matte chrome” bumpers painted black to match the vehicle. Has anyone done this and ballpark price?

also considering wanting to paint the plastic trim around the wheel arches and bottom horizontal matte black plastic pieces under the doors…basically wanting the whole vehicle to look gloss black.

is it possible to paint these plastic parts to look gloss black, or is that not really possible? I know the higher end models have matching painted panels - are these plastic or metal like the doors?

thanks for any insight or suggestions.

The X-Dynamic models all come with gloss black lower trim. You could paint the satin black trim, but it is textured, and might look weird when painted gloss. If you really want to have gloss lower trim, you're probably better off replacing all of the trim.

I much prefer the satin trim I have on my Defender, and there are people on this forum that have the X-Dynamic models and don't like the gloss trim, as it scratches easily and prone to stone chips.

Much better off ordering the models that have this done from the factory. Most body shops will caution against painting the texture plastic. If you change your order to an X-Dynamic I would get a good PPF done right off the bat. I hate the look of unpainted plastic and while it doesn't chip like paint it does stain/fade/and scratch. The PPF will keep the gloss looking new for a long time.

gotcha. I guess I’ll keep the texture plastic around the trim. How about the front and rear “chrome bumpers”….ive seen plenty of people paint these to match the paint - does anyone have ballpark price to do this? That was really my main thing I wanted to do. They sell kits online to swap them, but feel like painting them is probably better since they have to be removed anyways?

That should be doable but the pricing will be all over the place so better off calling your local shops for a quote. Those pieces could potentially be wrapped instead of painted which would be cheaper and could be reversed when you decide to sell it.

Mine in northern Ohio was about 2k to convert the silver to Santorini. However mine was already taken apart due to an accident in the rear so I had less labor time directly billed to it for part of the stage. It was also a certified JLR body shop.

that sounds about what I was thinking ($1k per bumper)…are you glad you did it? I really wanted an all blacked out look, just couldn’t justify the cost to upgrade to one of the more expensive trim levels.

Default Buy New Plastic and paint the bumpers

If you want to do that much work, you may want to look into a kit or purchasing separate plastics. Check out these 2 sites.

If I were you I wouldn’t. Defenders that aren’t all black are a dying breed, and silver looks pretty cool. But it is up to you.
