Panoramic Window or Solid roof ??
I have an older LR with a glass panoramic roof. It opens in one half for air flow (nice!), the other is fixed (doesn't open). When I load my roof (roof rails + cross bars), I get wind noise while driving on the highway. The straps also whap! the glass, unless I take the extra time to tie them to the cross bars....At speed, the noise can be unbearable to my passengers, and I was thinking if the skylight window were not there, would that make the cabin more quiet when driving on the highway? Typical items for my cross bar set up would be surfboard, stand up paddle board, canoe, all things I use ratchet straps with to hold in place. Any comments or suggestions on how I'd be fairing if I had a solid roof would be appreciated. thanks!
when JLR production allows, hopefully they will bring back the solid roof option. It was $1,500 less on a build, but ultimately that just goes back to JLR on other purchases, like a roof rack or simpler cross bars.
I initially ordered my 23.5 110 in March without the sunroof option. then made a last minute decision last day before cut-off to ADD the option thanks to my wife saying, " wait so you DIDNT order it with a SUNROOF, are you MAD?!" In the end, I'd rather have a sunroof and not need it, then always look up to the roof and regret not getting one. I also added the comfort package and 3 zone climate - hehe that'll show her..
I went with the solid roof on my 23.5 110S. I’ve had sunroofs on most of my previous cars (most recently an X3), and found I just don’t open them. They let in a lot of wind noise when open, I live in the northeast so much of the year it’s either too hot or too cold, and frankly it’s one more thing to break. I decided to simplify and save a little money.
I have an old stick-shift Z4 I drive when I want to feel the wind. I don’t need that in my Defender. But to each his/her own.

I wasn't able to order the panoramic roof on my base 2022 Defender. If I had been able to I probably would have ordered it, even though I also got the factory rack. On previous vehicles the glass roof adds a lot of light into the cabin (particularly on Audis with black on black on black interiors). As an alternative I got the white cross beam and the lighter headliner which help open things up.

Me too - LR has to check the family SUV criteria. my LR has a moonroof with a partially transparent blind (not a full shade). driving while the sun is bearing down gets old. I'm waiting until JLR has enough spare capacity to offer the standard roof again. I'll put the $1,500 they wanted for turning my SUV into a greenhouse into something I'd prefer to spend $$ on, like skid plates or a roof rack. I know most folks love the skylight, but I've been there and done that, and just want a change with the next LR.
