Thanks for confirming. I agree, this is very annoying behavior and the first vehicle I've owned that doesn't keep the radio in the "off" state if it was off when turning off the ignition. My wife's BMW X5 works correctly, it will keep the radio in "last" state. I hope this can/will be addressed in an upcoming software update.

Some will love the fact that even turning off the radio system before shutting down the car, the next time you start it up the radio automatically comes on...I feel bad for the LR software engineers...wait, did I just say that? Personally, I really like how quickly the system boots up alive when I start up the car and almost immediately picks up where I left with my music.

So I’ll be totally honest and say, I have no idea how to turn the radio off. I can turn it down to zero and/or mute it, but the “off” button, I have not found. With that said, if I put the radio, Sirius, etc…on mute before turning off the truck, everything is still muted when I turn the truck back on.

Audiobooks don’t seem to automatically restart, if that’s what was last playing before turning off the truck.

Thanks for all of the feedback and confirmation. I thought maybe I had not configured something correctly or user error

Yeah I agree, nothing I've tried actually turns the radio off. Especially if you use a source like SiriusXM/FM/AM. So far, what I've done to address is 1) turn the volume down to 0 or 2) set to a source that doesn't start playing music without user interaction e.g. Apple Music/Podcast/Audiobooks/etc.

Does anyone know if this still functions like this with 3.3.1 software? I'm still awaiting "when" my software will show up and allow the latest download. If 3.3.1 doesn't address, is there a place to request this type true "off" functionality?

My experience has been with the latest 3.3.1 update.

The only thing I’ve found is to press mute before turning off the truck, because it remembers the setting when you restart.

One thing that never happened, even since the update, but happened for the first time yesterday was audible started where I left off automatically. I prefer that vs having to reopen everything for each vehicle restart.

There are a number of setting that the defender (frustratingly) doesn't remember from drive to drive. Radio on/off, adaptive cruise distance and drive mode to name a few. I want the stupid thing to remember if I had the radio on or off, that I keep the adaptive cruise distance on 1 and that I drive in eco mode, but it always defaults to radio on, adaptive cruise distance 3 and comfort mode.

How do you turn the radio off?

To avoid comfort, I have it set to “automatic” and it does remember that drive mode.

While I have the same issue with there not actually being an "off" capability with the radio - only "pause" it seems. I also have found numerous times that if I am near my truck it will connect to my phone and start playing Spotify. I have to pause it on my phone. Very strange.

Had a similar thing happen when my wife and I were trying to do the whole homelink garage door opener thing. I was in her LR trying to figure out why the owners manual directions weren’t working, and found a YouTube video. When I hit play it started playing over my Defenders speakers😂

We were switching from truck to truck and I’m guessing that not enough time (or distance) had past for the Defender to completely shut down.
