Back in early cars (MY21~) there were 2x USB A and 2x USB C. The two USB A were removed because of supply chain issues during COVID like things like the sunglasses holder, and simply never added back.
Man, thanks for the quick response. I think I should add them and/or something else. I'll look for the part number but if anyone has them handy, please share.
My 2023.5 came with 2 USB-As on the middle 2. As mine is D90 and don't really use much, I just replaced them with USB-Cs just in case. But yes, you can split to use all 4 but make sure your connector is exactly same shape. There are connectors in mirrored vision which will not fit.
FYI, from the video, it looks so easy to pop them out but I had real hard time taking USB-A sockets out so I ended up taking them out from the side panel.
Pretty straight forward. I did have some difficulty fishing the harness to the other opening like shown in the video. I used a metal hanger to make a hook and grab it to fish it through. I now have 4 USB-C connections in the back seat.
Nobody likes the blank positions, but considering that the international standard for USB charging is moving to USB-C for all new devices is it really worth adding the old standard? Additionally, how many backseat passengers really need to charge four devices simultaneously? If someone feels the need for four charging ports, better to add two more USB-C ports and use these adapters. I’ve been using these in the interim.
My 2020 X 7 seater came with 2 USB-A and 2 power ports (cigarette lighter round plugs).
I think USB-A is worthless so I swapped the 2 USB-A for USB-C. From powerfuluk - genuine LR parts. Was a bit of a pain to prise them out (without nicking up and damaging the console panel...) Works great. So now I have 2 round power ports and 2 USB C.
I did read that some of the new ones only have wires for 2 things there. Powerful sells a splitter harness I believe so you can then have 4.
Interestingly my early car also has the 2 USB-A in the rear upper portion of the front setback. I think they’ve also decontented that. (have never used them but they are there)
