Default Rear View Mirror Camera

My Defender has the rear view mirror that turns into a screen. It records the rear. Does it record? How can I obtain the footage?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It doesn’t record. It’s just a live-feed camera. There is an OEM dash cam that includes a rear-facing camera that can record.

I wish it did record. I wish someone would find a way for it to record.

Does this easily integrate into pre-existing wiring, or is it just like any other aftermarket dash-cam that needs new wiring to be threaded throughout the car, e.g. to the back, to a power source, etc?

Simon has an install video, they run the wires to the back:

Personally I would avoid the Land Rover dash cam, I have it fitted in mine and it's terrible. The quality of the footage is OK but it has been very unreliable and it's difficult to extract the rear facing cameras footage, I've always had Blackview cameras in previous Land Rovers and am thinking about going back to one of them.

I have fitted the fitcamx on my Defender. It was simple with no having to wire into the fuse box. It looks OEM too.

Clear sight rear view camera / mirror / screen is made by Gentex. (https://www.gentex.com/files/brochur...DM-Full_v2.pdf) They are available in a number of different vehicles.

I'd imagine it would be fairly simple to take the output that feeds the "mirror" and also write it to a SSD. Maybe that will be a retirement project for me.

I also have the FitcamX in the front and my old dash cam moved to the rear - both just writing to local memory.
