Rear "whoosh" noise

Enargy1 yes I hear the whoosh noise in my defender quite often. How it was explained to me was that when you press down on the gas peddle a mixture of air and fuel and sparks swirl around under your hood. That mixture of fuel and air and sparks then get expelled out two little round tubes at the back of your car. Sometimes that rapid expelling of mixture pressure makes a whoosh noise. In my case its more of a whoosh vroom whoosh but i bet its the same thing you are hearing.

Do you have the classic mudflaps? Check them to see if they are loose. Just go back there and shake them. If they are loose at the top, just tighten them. Heard those on someone else's Defender trying to find out what the maddening noise was. Was infrequent and hard to replicate. Usually when passing or being passed by a semi and the wind would shove laterally. Turned out to be loose mudflaps.
My MO when dealing with creaks, flaps and random noises is to press, push, pull and attempt to see if any exterior trim (including and starting with all the "Dealer Installed Mods") for loose bits. I'm not saying they didn't properly torque things (perhaps), but definitely things loosen up with vibrations.
Good luck.
