I'm about three months in with a P300 and so far have had zero issues. I did get a base model, so slightly fewer electronic components to worry about.

Given the reputation of Land Rover, I chose to lease the vehicle. I figure if after three years it is a pain, then I can easily walk away.

I cannot resist answering.

Certainly one can be so enthusiastic about reliability and resale value to the point of being called an enthusiast. I have known many and they all drive Toyota’s and that’s wonderful. But, it’s not my thing.

I purchased my 2020 D110 P300 for only one reason — the 4WD drivetrain. Simply put, it is the most capable available in any new, off-the-shelf vehicle, ever.

I seem to be in the minority for purchasing the vehicle solely for this reason. But, I really think an automobile should not require asphalt.

I have had no reliability issues at all. This is just luck, as clearly others have suffered some mfg. quality challenges, which I hope are fixed ASAP.

Enjoy !!!

No issues with my 2020 110 P300 either, other than resetting the Pivi Pro once (hold down the radio power button for about 12 seconds). I have to reset my PC at home sometimes too, so not a big deal. I have about 6K miles on it and have taken it from DC and Florida and back, many 3-6 hour drives, and lots of camping trips. I had a Discovery 2 before this which needed a lot of TLC, but I bought it knowing this beforehand. I think the Defender will be very reliable, however, I purchased an extended warranty just in case. For me, that's the cost of ownership. Already lots of great memories in it!

We've had our '20 HSE P400 since November and it has been an absolutely flawless vehicle. It's awesome on road and off road. It tows a 26' trailer easily. The only surprise we've had with ours is the gas mileage is not as good as advertised, then again, we didn't buy it for the gas mileage. I'm sure you can find people who have had issues, maybe we're just lucky, but we love our Defender and thus far it's been a perfect vehicle.

2021 P400 SE. I’ve had it since late Dec 2020.
5000 miles. The auto on/off has never worked which I don’t care to fix.
Experienced some aggressive lane assist correction in early days, all fixed by latest OTA updates. No other issues. Will never tow. Most likely will never serious off-road. Did great in the snow/ice this winter. Love it for my mostly-highway-commute to work!

Default Plus and minuses

I think you should be welcome on this thread. I have 16,000 on my 2020 Land Rover P 400 defender 110. I would truthfully have over 22,000 already, but because it’s been in the shop for five weeks primarily with electronic gremlins it’s been fewer miles.

. Having owned over 40 cars in my life including 28 new cars: 4 Jeep JLU, on JL wrangler. 3 Jeep GC Summits, 2 Durango citadels. Tahoe, sububuran, Lr3 and 2 LR4. Plus lots of GMs and etc etc Volvo, Subaru. - I love cars.

I can truthfully say that Land Rover’s have the highest gremlin rate. But that’s part of the character. It’s the same way when I was younger tDucati Fingerprints in the paint job are considered character. I also just bought an Aprilia it’s in the shop a lot more than any of the 15 other motorcycles I have owned.

. That doesn’t make them bad vehicles it’s part of their character. And some of this is part of the first year model. I have had the A pillar rattle, numerous stereo problems, car has died twice on the interstate going 80 miles an hour, twice at stop, but most of it has been electronic issues. Squeaky seals, d pillar sound, key fob poor response......... No other car I have every driven has had more. But the Lr4’s were pretty solid.

. But the truth is every car have bought new has been in the shop for something Under warranty. My Dodge Durango’s have the fewest issues. My wife’s Jeep grand Cherokee is very few. My Kia soul for my son zero - 20,000 miles and not one issue.. I just don’t think a Kia compares to the ride and transmission of this Land Rover.

Some vehicles like this have amazing character. And I tell my wife the ride, the transmission and motor make up for the quirks.

The only issue that I’ve had with my June 2019 build 2020 P400 HSE with Advanced off road, cold climate, tow and other options, is the sifting sand sound from the passenger side A-pillar that I fixed myself. Other than that, it’s been bulletproof and bank vault solid.

I ultimately decided not to get one. I realized this is not the vehicle for me. Yes, it's really cool, but the risk of problems would ruin the ownership experience for me. Even if I didn't have any problems, every time I got in it I would worry "is this the time something happens?" Every time I put it in reverse I'd wonder "is this the time the backup camera fails?" I'd be afraid to take it to the grocery store for fear I'd be stuck with bags full of ice cream, milk, eggs, and not be able to make the 5 miles home. Forget about taking it into the back country where there is no help for miles. Then there are the dealers. I'd constantly worry if this is the time they keep the car for two weeks and when I get it back the problem is still there.

No one can deny there are reliability concerns with the Defender (or anything from JLR for that matter). Only you can determine if it's worth the risk for you. For me, it's not.

That said, yes, I do think it's a really cool vehicle. I'm somewhat envious of those who can accept the risk and can experience the car for it's good points. But I know myself. I'll stick with my boring, out of date 4Runner. It's the right car for me. Again, you have to make the decision for yourself, no one can do that for you. Perhaps if the reliability improves over the years, I'll get one.

(On the flip side, I realized I've been taking the reliability of my 4Runner for granted. I'm starting to appreciate that again.)
Today is the tomorrow you were worried about yesterday. Don't live a boring life.
