As above, the remote app unlock function hasn’t been working for some 6 months now. I’m up to date on iOS app and defender software.
Booking into the garage is a few month wait so wanted to try and diagnose the issue here if possible.
I’ve tried deleting the land rover remote app, and logging out etc etc but it doesn’t change anything.
when it first happened I had the key inside the car, so that is now deactivated since I couldn’t remote unlock and reactivate the key. We are down to 1 key now!
That’s all well and good, but it doesn’t help with my main issue - the app being faulty. I haven’t seen this issue anywhere else which is why I’m asking for help.
Mate I have no idea what has caused you to be so aggressive about this but I am presuming you’re saying the two are linked. I did not know this, so that’s helpful.
sorry you’re having a bad day, thanks for your help!
Yup. That's it, I'm being aggressive direct because I'm trying to make you learn how to fold your ears just right so you can pull your head out of... well, you get it, and to look at a problem a different way, instead of being stuck on your conviction that your copy of the JLR app is faulty, because according to your research no one else is having that issue.
Never mind the obvious clues like red warning text on the freaking app itself, telling the user to NOT do the very freakin' thing you did. Never mind using some critical thinking skills and logic to maybe wonder if the very fact the app stopped working as intended correlates with you locking a key in the car?
I'm not saying the two are linked. I'm saying fix one problem, then see if that has a cascade effect and fixes the other problem. Don't be an NPC who takes one medication for an issue, only to take 5 others in order to combat the side effects of the first med is causing. Fix the first problem, then go onto the next if that doesn't work.
mate, I’m asking for help, why give me a bollocking?!
for context, I have used the app hundreds of times to lock a key in the car when out and about and not wanting to have the key with me. I use the app to then unlock the car and hey presto, the key works again.
my point here was that the usual thing didn’t work, and the app randomly stopped letting me unlock the car even though it had let me loads of times before. The red warning was not there when I locked the key inside the car - it appeared after.
I have tried locking the deactivated key inside the car using the active spare key, but this doesn’t reactivate the key like expected.
don’t worry about responding with anything, I’m not here to be told I’m an idiot, just looking for a solution.
There is another thread in here from 4 months ago, started by someone in Spain who locked their keys in the car then the app would not unlock the car so they could retrieve them. Eventually a locksmith was able to get in for them, but they also said that LR had disabled the unlock feature on the app. Perhaps it is dependent on location, or related to the situation of keys being locked in the car.
I imagine it could be a safety feature in a scenario where you were trying to get away from someone who had access to the app, and you locked yourself in the vehicle with the keys.
You may want to call into LR and see if something needs to be reset in their end.
OK this thread is I agree, a bit aggressive for a simple "help me" thread. Did that bro get banned already? Wow quick action! It says "BANNED" under his name. HA
I do this exactly what you propose when I go to the beach or the river with the bloodhounds. Places where I'll lose or screw up the key.
Simple, as follows:
-- I leave my wallet and the main Defender key in the car in the door pocket or in the console (not the weird activity watch thing, I don't have that, I'm talking about the actual car key fob).
-- I'll only take my phone with me.
-- I lock the doors via remote app. It locks every time.
-- Then an hour or two later, I come back, unlock the car with my phone.
-- Get in and happy as a clam. Drive away thinking how clever a technologist I am...
So -- I don't agree with whatever is being proposed as the reason above is, even though the red text on that app screen does say "don't leave your key in the vehicle" or whatever. I would agree there is something wrong with the telematics of your L663, mate, My remote app works pretty much 100% of the time. I love it.
It has occurred to me that I am playing with fire if I lose my phone, or if Verizon mobile network goes down, or the JLR app craps the bed or whatever, but it's handy and I like it. Worst case I'd just call the house and get the spare key. I would not do this in the woods in a remote location for this reason... no way. This is urban commando stuff for me.
EDIT: I am in the US (North America) market

The remote app is a handy tool that I use frequently, especially on hot days here in Southern Florida. Leaving the beach I set the climate, start the Defender remotely and arrive to a pleasantly cool vehicle. I mostly use it via my Apple Watch, saves me from digging for my phone in my backpack. I have not used it to lock the fob in the vehicle but reading others use it in this manner, it does not seem to be a disabling issue in the app. Perhaps there is a tech hiccup in the OP’s PIVI or mobile device. Maybe deleting the app, reinstalling it, followed by a hard reset of the smart phone might be in order. I had a similar gremlin after upgrading to iOS 18 affecting the audio of the sound system. A hard reset solved my problem. Hopefully this issue will be resolved quickly and easily without a trip to the dealer, we all know what that can entail.
The way I understand it, is that you are not supposed to lock the keys in your car, because "Remote Unlock" is currently unavailable.
Once "Remote Unlock" is available again, it is okay to lock your keys in the car.
Why "Remote Unlock" is unavaible, I don't know. In Germany, it was unavaible for a few weeks due to safety concerns. With one of the software updates, the issue was solved.
I know it's a few months ago, but my remote unlock stopped working after the Land Rover "security updates".
l assume it was a security issue. lt's a shame because while l would never need to do what the O/P used it for, l have on two occasions accidentally locked the keys in the back.
On my D250 you can unlock the rear door without the rest of the doors, and when you close the rear door again it automatically locks. So if you left the keys in the back you'd be locked out.
I live in Northern Florida and last week locked both keys in my 2024 Land Rover Defender 110.
Had the car in the garage where I never lock the vehicle. Kept receiving notices on the app the vehicle was unlocked, so locked it on the app - not remembering both keys were inside the vehicle. (Second key was placed in the glove box while on a trip.) 4 days later, go to unlock the vehicle using the app on my phone and receive the following message: "Vehicle Asleep Vehicle is currently in low power mode due to inactivity. Manual vehicle start will restore remote features."
Call Land Rover Roadside Assistance, they send a kid out who uses the wedge/ballon/flexible rod to unlock the door. Of course the alarms go off and I immediately hit the unlock button on the key fob. Thank and tip the technician and see him off.
Back to the car. Won't start. Receive message on the dash telling me the key has been deactivated and to see my owners manual. I try the dead key fob under the steering wheel trick. No luck. Try the other key. No luck. Lights will come on, information screen, and door lock/unlock works, but windows/sunroof will only open holding down the unlock button on fob for 3 seconds. Unfortunately, they will not close using the same maneuver on the lock button.
Call Land Rover Road Side Assistance and they tell me can only send a tow truck. Call JLR dealership where I bought the car and they tell me they have to tow the vehicle. As it's angled in the small side of the garage and has no power to release the brake or shift from neutral, they will have to put on "skates" to get it on the truck. If the fob module in the vehicle has to be replaced, up to 2 weeks waiting on part.
