Default Robustec Repair

Has anyone had their Robustec seats repaired at the dealer as part of their Technical Bulletin recall repair?

My seats have faded and my dealer is about to schedule the repairs - its a wetvac process - but they have not performed this on another vehicle yet and I am hesitant to be the guinea pig.

Any feedback gratefully received.

The wet-vac TSB is not for Robustec. It's for the lower grade fabric that was not treated properly when it was manufactured (per the TSB). That fabric has been discontinued and, at least temporarily, replaced with leather.

Whatever the material is called - yes, per the TSB it was not sealed correctly, hence the fading/staining. I have no guarantees the wet vac treatment will work or just offer a temporary fix. Either way, its annoying that the dealer is offering no guarantees.

Per my original message - does anyone have any experience of having the treatment performed?

My wife has executed the soak throughly with copious amounts of water and use a shop vac vacuum approach each time she has cleaned our 2020 D110 S model with the recalled, original fabric seats -- maybe four times over the past year (she is very passionate cleaner). It helps ... to a point. I think it helps plenty ... she, not as much.

Yes, if one looks closely, stains are visible and yes, new ones occur. Fortunately, I just sit in the seat -- and I don't look at it much.

Last time, she used the 303 aerospace protectant afterwards and I think I will go ahead and spray some more on today.

You can order the Bissell pet cleaner which is a mini handheld carpet cleaner. It works great for two reasons. The first is it uses no water because the solution covers cleaning/water. The second is it is small the size of a hand vac which makes it maneuverable and you can limit exposure to the leather. You can buy on Amazon and its around 130 dollars.

As someone who will (hopefully) receiving a base model 110 some time in December with fabric seats - what is staining them? Spilled coffee, sweat, condensation? Or is it dirty dogs and children? I'd like to know what to be prepared for and whether I should be shopping for seat covers

You might find they switched out the fabric as its been discontinued for '22 models - but for my '21 P400 SE the fabric is 'discolored' and faded slightly - looks like its sun faded but with some signs of patching. This is purely from sitting in them. Sweat and condensation only. No dogs, no pets, no kids.

Yes, same here. Faded and discoloring is happening on mine also.

It stains extremely easily -- water drops from a dirty roof when the door is opened is enough to leave a stain.

Definitely the original fabric was the incorrect choice by JLR. They may blame it on a failure to coat it, but I think the complicated nature of the fabric hurts too. Up close, the 3D dimensions of the fabric has a very large quantity of tiny and small pores to hold stain in multiple directions. The fabric does look interesting, though.

Yeah I'm pretty annoyed about it. I'm having it repaired by JLR with a wetvac in case it makes it worse or doesn't improve then I have them to blame. Then I'll see what my options are. TO be honest I want all the seats replaced with leather as this shouldn't be something I should be dealing with on an $80K car that is 6 months old.

Leather is not an option for me as a thirty year vegetarian - so I guess I'll start shopping for some neoprene seat covers
