Yes, there will be no risk of corrosion if the sliders are aluminum. But, do we know of an available aluminum slider for the New Defender?

 

i believe land rover defender accessories are aluminum made.

 

I have the Bright Side Tubes from Land Rover and they're working great for me. They don't extend past the wheel arches so there isn't a chance to hitting the sides. I've put them through some testing sliding over rocks and they've held up so far.

 

My aluminum skid plates while thicker do not have the ability to take the blows my steel sliders do on the lr3

Hey all - wanted to bump this and see if there are any further updates on the rock sliders from Lucky 8.

Guapo - did you ever get instructions from Lucky 8 to install the set you received?

TrioLRowner - any chance you were able to confirm carbon or stainless steel from Lucky 8?

I'm looking to install sliders on my new 110 HSE, and it looks like Lucky 8 is about the only game in town right now. I appreciate any thoughts from the group. Thanks.

 

I just got off the phone with Lucky 8 regarding my order for Defender Rock sliders. They are "awaiting shipping", so should be on the way in a bit.

They confirmed that the sliders are stainless steel and powered coated black. Great for strength, not ideal for avoiding galvanic corrosion. They were not able to tell me the grade of stainless steel.

Once I receive them, I will carefully assess their mounting locations and figure out which bolts to use (likely aluminum -- depending on whether aluminum pre-threaded holes exist) and how to eliminate contact between the SS and aluminum (likely a sacrificial bushing of a suitable material?). I will use a suitable thread lubricant and check the bushing regularly.

I am planning to keep my Defender for decades and desire neither that the sills are smashed on my daily off-road drives nor that the structural sills are corroded away by the SS.

The next challenge comes once Lucky 8 reveals their newly offered Defender bumpers and winch.

 

Then option is really aluminum sliders to prevent corrosion.

 

From the looks of it there is a ton of steel and aluminium mixed in on the undercarriage of the new 110.

 

Nice shot without all those cardboard covers. Fuel tank will take two plates to protect, and that shiny pressurized air tank on the RH side looks in grave danger ("Is there another kind?") without a plate or slider protecting it. I wish Matzker in Germany hurried up with their underbody armor stuff, most everything they advertise for the new D is apparently made of aluminum, and even the rock sliders are described as an "aluminum-chromium-molybdenum steel structure". Too bad so far they exist only in a photo on their website - can't order or even get a quote for anything for the new Defender from Matzker.
