Default Roof ladder install - is this spacing from the body normal?

I just installed a roof ladder. Is this spacing normal? I don't have an OEM install to compare it to. I feel as though this should sit a lot more flush, but with the supplied spacers it sits out a fair bit. I feel a little silly asking for assistance on an install that's 2 screws and 2 bolts, but here we are haha.

Yes, it needs the room to flex when you are standing on it

Just watch the hinges. A lot of them have broken due to the poor quality of the plastic material on the hinges of the OEM ladder.
