We have been working with Öhlins to provide high end fully tuned and adjustable dampers for the new Defender. The prototypes have shown up for test fitment. These are definitely some really sexy shocks! Wow! When completed, these will become part of the Sarek Stage builds and we will be the exclusive distributor for the new Defender. These work with the Sarek 2 inch coil springs. Öhlins offers adjustable compression and rebound.
So guys that were too cheap to buy the air suspension are now gonna step up for these expensive shocks ???
How about coming up with on the fly adjustment of the air strut shocks for on and off road.
Air is not an expensive option when u buy a new defender, so the idea that people purchase coil trucks to be cheap is a bit misleading. The fact that you can actually option one with coils is the real plus. As far as manipulating the air suspension for on and off road driving, the factory air suspension already does that and does it very well. There is already an aftermarket controller that lets you do whatever you want to the suspension, but over or under inflating airbags does not make the vehicle any more capable on or off road. Simple answer, if you want to upgrade your suspension to better suit your specific needs, coils are the way to go.if you want simplicity and reliability and durability. Get coils. If you want custom tuning and custom spring rates. Also custom damping are all doable with coils. . If you want to raise and lower for car parks, garages, ease of access, load leveling, get air. If you want to have proprietary electronic dampening shocks that adjust according to the vehicle needs, get the air suspension. They both have benefits and drawbacks. In all honesty, air suspension is the cheap option for anyone that wants a $70 lift rod kit. Once there are failures in the system, air suspension becomes very expensive and inconvenient. I think JLR air suspension is top tier in terms of air suspension technology. It has proven to be pretty reliable for how complex it is. The good news is that when your rear shocks fail on your air suspension truck, our rear dampers can be retrofitted if you want an upgrade. They might be less money than the factory dampers 😀

I'm well aware how the air suspension works, it's the dampers we are talking about not the "air springs".
Having control of the shocks [dampers] [compression / rebound] settings on the fly is what the Defender needs.
Having manually adjustable shocks makes as much sence as locking hubs on a CJ5 back in "1975"...
Nice pro/cons, @sarek . As I always tell my kids: every choice is a compromise!
Seeing you & your rig at SCARR (well, before your midnight run to Austin!), I absolutely know coil is the way for you!! I always imagined myself as an off-roader, but the reality is - I do it FAR less than I wish I could. I chalk it down to lack of off-roading access in Texas and too much of a job commitment to travel as much as I want. I dream of being AfterTheLandRoverExperience! Your post reminded me of what someone said when I was young and trying to tick off a lot of 14-ers: Everyone likes to think about climbing mountains, but no one actually likes doing it! The corollary: most people like thinking of off-roading but most (certainly ME) don't actually do it. I try to get offroad as much as I can, but it certainly isn't the majority of the miles. Sadly, I think air fits for the vast majority of owners.

This post is so ridiculous it's almost hard to believe it's real. Chambers his round by blanketing everyone with coil suspension "cheap" (despite air only being a $1,600+ "upgrade" in the order).
Fires the gun with a "How about..." suggestion for a guy who's probably not asking for suggestions from keyboard warriors with vehicles on 22's.
