Just love how Simon demonstrated the silliness of L663's rear bumper design in the first 60 seconds of his video (link below) and scuffed the bumper in the process (but who's counting ). I've been considering different ways to deal with it - saw the "official" protection (a paper thin stainless steel piece that will allow stuff to slide over it but will still allow scratched edges) and a few aftermarket covers that do the job to some extent but are all likely to destroy the paint anyway, and thought that since the paint is gone, why go to extremes if all you need is a non-skid surface, and there's a good solution for that - grip tape?
It doesn't seem such a simple thing exists, though - maybe it's the search engines that have gone sour, or it's too difficult to make in an industrial manner - the geometry of that thing is anything but trivial.
Did anyone here see anything like that?
And before we even get there, is the rear bumper strong enough to hold the weight of a person standing on it, or did they design it like this with the purpose of discouraging standing on it in the first place?
PS: Their cover - is it just plastic, or non-skid surface like the one at the bottom of the cargo compartment?
Don’t mess around with anything else but this -- it’s rubber, not plastic. I’ve had it on for 4 years. It’s cheap, hasn’t discolored, dogs grip it, and it’s protected my bumper. Better than the LR genuine thing too
I stand on my bumper all the time on this too btw to access roof rack or wash the top of the car.. Takes my weight just fine. I’m 208 lb. That’s another benefit of this rubberized thing. I can assure you I hate cheap aftermarket crap, this is for whatever reason, actually good

I had the HSX one and really liked it. I didn't use it to stand on, but I liked how it wrapped around the edge, so the bumper is protected where you usually hit it hardest. However, I wouldn't want to stand on it as it is only held on with double stick tape and silicon. I think grip tape would be a great idea, perhaps you could just cut it to shape yourself.

+1 for this - I got mine from New Defender Parts out of Australia, and it's excellent. Been on for pushing five years and still looks perfect, grips well, and has held up brilliantly.
