Default Spacing of OEM Cross Bars

I'm looking to add the OEM cross bars for roof carrying. The factory roof rails on the 110 have three slots on each side for adding accessories, but based on images of the cross bars, it looks like they are intended to fit in the front and middle sets of slots (not using the back slot).

Can anybody confirm if the OEM cross bars can be positioned using the front and rear slots on the rails? I believe the rails curve toward the back, so the spacing would be different from the middle, which makes me think this won't work. Or would the rear camera/antenna get in the way?

I will primarily be using the cross bars for strapping down lumber. The distance between the front and middle spaces is only about 27", so if I'm strapping down 8+ foot boards, that leaves a lot of unsupported length on either end.

I'm guessing the Thule or other aftermarket cross bars may solve this, but I just prefer the look of the OEM parts and the fact that they are specifically built to mate to the factory rails without having to add feet or other adapters. I also don't really want to go with a full rack because I don't want the extra noise and fuel hit.

The original Bar always needs the slots. There are 3 of them on the D110

I like to position them on my prefered place / space.

The Thule Wingbar Edge 9595 has 1 Medium bar and 1 Large bar.
The medium bar lenght fits on my D90 till the sharkfin. Should be the same for the D110.
( made a little longer slider plate with 8 mm slotbolt)

I never got cross bars due to my thinking that they added more height but now seeing that its just an inch over antenna. Going to order them now. Thanks!

Factory bars only go in the fixed locations with the notches without modification. I took my rear apart when I had my new Defender, cut it, and moved it as far back as possible. But that was before there were any cross bar options on the aftermarket.

That's where I got it to finally sit.

Made mine lower, without the 3040 footkit. Only 1/4" higher than the sharkfin
Requires new brackets I made with longer rail sliders with 8 mm slotbolt.

Your setup looks great and I considering doing the same on my D300 110 instead of getting the standard crossbars or roof rack. Couple Qs:
1) can you use T accessories on the edge bars?
2) do you think you could fit 3 bars on the rails? not sure if they would make a flat plane though
3) mine has a pano roof so not sure if this setup would make any interference, any thoughts?

thank you very much!

Hi Defendit..

new arrival on this forum, thank you for the useful info. I am looking to install crossbars on my new D300 110; like yours a lot more than the original LR cross bars and seem much less noisy than a roof rack. Perhaps you can help with a couple Qs:
1) do you think it could fit a third thule edge bar on the rails? not sure it would provide a flat surface but would be ideal
2) the edge bars have a T channel to use as rail for anchoring mechanisms?
3) my 110 has pano roof, any info on whether it would have interference?

thank you!
