Default Yakima roof bars questions

I picked up some yakima 1a high rise feet for my D1 on the cheap, I just need the roof bars. Anyone here know what length cross bars? I plan to stick a cheap 'half' basket up there. Any recommendations or tips. Iv searched and can't seems to find what I'm looking for.
-thanks

Good luck with the Yakima. I tried them and the towers either touched or were millimeters away from touching the alpine glass. I sent them back and got the Thule towers/bars.
Check your local Craigslist if you want to try anyways.

I mounted mine to the OEM roof rails not to the rain gutters.
You can use any sized Yak bars you want, the length is uptop you, it all depends on how wide you need or want.
Take a tape measure and have a friend hold one side, you the other and figure out what you need.

Thanks spike I wasn't sure if the length of the bars had to do with their strength/load capacity. I guess I'm over thinking.

Nope, the length of the bars only effects how much overhang you have.

Spike, the HiRise towers that he got are designed to go in the rain gutters. The bars are plenty strong. Two canoes and a rod tube no problem.

Good luck with the towers, they were too close for comfort for me.

On my first D1 I did as Spike says, I used the factory rails vs the gutters. I don't recall, it's been so long, but I think I went with 72" bars, might have been 66" though. Basically whatever was the suggested length I went 6" longer for more room. I'm doing the same thing on my wife's car now...longer bars for more room. In this case I can use the rocketbox (or whatever they're called) as well as other mounts...ski/board, kayak, etc. I'm still debating on what to do for a rack now. I'd like to get one of the fancy schmancy types but then the Yakima offers a lot of versatility for other vehicle use if necessary....plus I already have one set and extra pieces, I'd only need one additional for the rear of the rover.

The rack I have that came with my rover I'm going to sell....It's only a half rack and not quite what I'm looking for.

Cheers.

Thanks for the clarification, I missed the part where he's using the hi-rise mounts.
