This is looking more and more like a conversations between a trading in owner and a sales person.

In all seriousness though, the fact is that Defenders are considerably being hit by depreciation in the current days, which is something we could not say a year and half ago.

To me that same C&B listing would sell upwards of $70k back in 2021/2022.

Ok, how about comparing resale of Wranglers to Defender? Sort of should be similar rate for base defenders.
I think souped up defenders with bling will loose a lot, maybe niche V8 will stay sort of, but adding overpriced colored roofs and trim pieces won't be the best strategy for resale.

I am not sure Wranglers and Defenders are comparable. Two very different vehicles in terms of purpose, construction and customer base.

Agree that any accessories we dump money on for our Defenders will never recoup in value when selling it. Especially considering the prices charged by JLR.

New to-be owner here. I was never under the impression these Defenders would appreciate off the lot like they have been since about 2021, I'm guessing. You all know that this is squarely because of Covid, right?? If Covid never happened, no way these trucks would command so much money over MSRP. Now that things are getting back to normal it's only logical that the prices would come down or at least not get ridiculous. I'm surprised people are getting panties in a bunch like they thought these were collector pieces right out of the gate. Yes, old defenders hold their value and most go for high prices, so I guess the real factor would be will these Defender 2's hold their value over the next twenty years. Or more realistically, they will be full electric by then and we have yet to even see them come out yet or what kind of value they hold.

Go find a used 2020-2022 Defender for less than current msrp....you cant really do it. Especially the lower trims.

Given the number of new Defenders on dealer lots for MSRP, I would have to think used prices will soften dramatically. I’m paying MSRP for my ‘24, waiting only four months from spec to delivery.

You hit the nail on the head here, amid much speculation. Between Covid, supply chain issues, chip shortages, a severe lack of availability of used vehicles, and the fact that the Defender was a hot item, and it’s rollout was eagerly anticipated, and simple supply and demand mathematics; lots of folks wanted a brand new Defender model and there was way more demand than supply, prices of new and gently used Defenders were exceedingly high. Now things have settled, and the market has cooled, but I believe most of us bought our Defenders for the long haul.

Used on lower trims will be harder to find.
