Default For Those on 275/70/18

Sorry if this is super redundant but how the heck are you getting those to fit without rubbing? The photos below are of my 2020 with the stock Goodyear AT(ish) tires on the 19” wheels using a 30mm spacer and 1.5” lift rods. Picture taken at normal ride height and full left hand lock. I also put it in off road and it didn’t really change anything from a clearance perspective.

I’ve got Pilbarra Steelies waiting to go on with a bit more offset and was planning on the 275/70/18 BFG AT K02s but I just don’t see how they are going to fit, at all. Am I missing something? I know this has been covered off a million times but the general consensus is that 275/70 works with 1.5” rods, I just don’t see it working. Thanks in advance for any insight.

It probably will depend on which Pilbara offset you've bought. +27 or +44
With the spacers and Tuffant Pilbaras depending on the offset you've gone for, at their offset of +27mm you're really going to be close to the wheel liner.

OEM offset is +41.5. With ET27s and spacers you've gone to -3.0mm That's a big change.

I didn't go for the Pilbara's as my understanding from speaking with the good folks at Tuffant, was that spacers are needed to fit the brake modded P400. The 27mm is a newer offering I believe so that may be only applicable to the 44. .

I run 265/70 R18 ET+29 stock suspension so not quite an apples to apples comparison. Nothing to spare. Zip. Nada.

I do know others running 275/70 R18 fit on Tuffant Simpsons (same +27mm offset as Pilbaras) , no spacers and a 1.5" rod lift. No problems.

Apologies if my ramblings are irrelevant.

Edit: I like the AT(ish) description. These really are a highway tire in all but name.

Thanks Gavin, I went with the +27 Thinking I could use them without spacers on my p400. But that didn’t end up being the case, they didn’t clear the face of front calipers or the rears. I went with the 30mm spacer just due to its popularity and availability, I might be able to step down to a 10mm and get the clearance I need without sticking too far out. Not trying to look like a Jeep owner 😆

This is the test fit with the spacers on the front:

Might just go with the 265/70 and see what happens. 🤷‍♂️

This is why I went with stock sizing (255/70-18) when I downsized my P400 to 18s, along with rear brake replacement. I'm using stock OEM steelies, and even with the same nominal size, by going to a more aggressive tread from a different brand the tire diameter grew 0.50" from my OEM 20" setup. It all fits but I was afraid of the very problem you have, even going up to 265/70s (which were available in my tire of choice). As it is I still have to run 30mm spacers in the rear only, but that's wheel, not tire, related of course.

I was skittish because I'd already tried a set of 275/70s and had to pull them off and sell on Craig's List -- no way, no how. I was afraid of the same happening again with 265s.

In the end, though, I wanted a stouter tire with the greater sidewall height the 18" wheel gives; taking a chance on not fitting AGAIN didn't make sense to me to get a little bit more height and 10mm more width.

Here's the 275/70s; rubbed big-time with or without spacers, with or without 1.5" Johnson Rods:

And the 255s I have now:

275/70/18 are about 33.4" in diameter - over an inch larger than stock - and will not fit without modifying the wheel well. I don't think a lift will avoid the rub. Try the 265/70/18 which are 32.6" in diameter and will fit without a lift. I run 265/70/18 on TuffAnt Kimberleys with the 29mm offset and can confirm these do not rub at any height without a lift.

I’m using KO2 in 285/65r18 (32.5”) with 1.5 inch lift rods and Morland wheels +25 offset.
Minor rubbing at full lock. I just ignore it.

Do you have any more pictures of the 275 70s? I'm planning on pushing the envelope and molding the liner and or trimming to make them work.

Thank you! Send pics when you throw them on! Are you on a lift with the 275s? I’m going to try to keep the suspension stock and see if I can fit without rods. Worse case I’ll throw a 1in in there.

I bought a set of the OEM steely for my p400 but when I took it to the shop, they said the changes required to make them fit went well beyond the caliper swap and recommended against it. Can you share what you had to do for figment and if you still feel it’s worth the change to get the OEM steel wheels?
