Default Three observations around noise relating to P300 v P400

I had a P400 110 for 30,000 flawless miles over two and a half years of ownership. Just took delivery of a P300 90 and am, so far (with 300 miles on it), quite pleased. I do notice a couple of things that are different: (1) when I turn off the 90, there is an increasingly loud fan in the front driver's side... leaving me to wonder what cooling function the P300 has that the P400 didn't. I mean, especially in a closed garage, it builds up to quite a loud pitch; (2) with the engine off, opening a door triggers three or four rapid clicks that almost sound like turning over a car with a battery so dead that it won't engage the starter... nothing appears wrong, nor is the charging system indicating a fault. Again, not heard on the P400, but have now heard 4 or 5 times on the P300; and (3) the start-up exhaust sound of the P300 (that lasts about 30 seconds before settling in) has quite a bit more of growl than the P400... I like it! Despite what the tiny tailpipes might lead one to think...

One other thing... the windscreen noise from the passenger side that used to bug me in the 110 is not present in the 90. I read somewhere about this being a common complaint to this day. I guess I got lucky with a complete seating of the windscreen adhesive this time around.

Just observations, no complaints.

Here's the 90. Eiger grey with factory paint protection, off-road pack, and advanced off-road pack. So far, I've added wheel arch protection, steelies (with K03s), Thule bars (with a set of European sourced covers when the bars are removed), and Elite 750 driving lights. Lucky8 sill guards go on next. "Signature graphic" removal next week... (more on that in a future thread).

Here's the 110... Yulong with all options, minus adaptive cruise. It was bad enough paying JLR to NOT install the signature graphic. I wasn't about to spend $1,200.00 on a software flash while knowing that I had already paid for the hardware.

I have a P300 and have observed all of those things since new as well.

1. The cooling fan really ramps up on a hot day once you shut the vehicle off. I assume this has something to do with cooling the turbo.
2. The relays clicking are very common. What they do... no clue.
3. The exhaust has a decent rumble. Even stomping on the gas gives a decent sound out the back.

Nice choice on with the steel wheels, they look great

It does sound pretty decent outside, but inside the fake engine noise is absolutely atrocious.

Great pair of trucks.

Coils or air? And what size KO3s? 265/70-18 or original 255?

And how are they for ride and acceleration? They’re significantly heavier than the Goodyear Adventures.

I have a P300 110 on coils with the 18” steelies, and am gathering options for my next set of tires.

And yes, I’ve noticed the fan, but not the clicking.

Thanks!

I have 24MY P400 and I have the exact clicking you describe. Haven't noticed any excessive fan noise after shut off though yet.

Never noticed these noises on my '22 p300 but mine wasn't garaged so maybe they were there and I just never heard them. Vehicle looks great btw, congrats!

Thanks!

As for hearing it... I was in a large, open parking lot last night and it got louder the further I walked away.

Yes, the P300 revs up the fan for typically about 10-20 seconds after you shut it off. It's very loud. I presume it's to cool down the turbo. Anyway, totally normal.

Also, yes, there are several clicks, like relay sounds, when you open a door. A caution: These trucks are notorious for significant battery drain if you frequently open or even if you just leave the doors open, like when you are camping, so watch out for that.

As for the sound - the P300's sound is ok. Not nearly V8-good, but neither is it wheezy or tinny-bad. It's fine and mostly quiet in use. But I'm not aware of any artificial sound, e.g. through the speakers. Is that confirmed? Normally, I'd object in principle to fake noise, but in this case, if there is any at all, it's got to be minimal.

The engine noise is as fake as Pamela Anderson. Here's how you can tell - floor it with the windows up, and then floor it with the windows down. Notice how quiet it is with the windows down. Also, the fake engine noise can be disabled using the Pathfinder software or the Gap tool.
