Default Toll transponder placement?

I live in WA and need toll transponder on car. I had front license plate toll bar on my LR4 since windshield transponders didn’t work.
Has anyone had luck rigging a license plate transponder behind the front grill or ?
I know a windshield transponder can work up against top of windshield near rear view mirror, but that doesn’t look very nice. Our windshield transponders are fairly large in WA.
Thank you!
*front license plates aren’t required in WA and I don’t want to drill holes for transponder bar.

I say give it a go behind the grill & use black zip tied, go test it out report back and let us know so we can all do it.

Here in SoCal we don't have that problem, the transponder must be placed somewhere on the windshield, no exceptions (also so that we can reach the occupancy switch on it, as many toll lanes are now charging based on number of occupants in the car.) So, I placed mine just to the left of the rear view mirror mount, where Land Rover recommends. It works fine there - not the prettiest sight for sure, but you get used to it quickly. However, my transponder also worked fine on the lower left corner of the glass, where the heated windhield supposedly gets in the way. That wasn't the case for me.

Hey JTKUS, I live in Kirkland WA and I placed my transponder on the upper left side of my window. I also have the cold weather package and they state that the only place you can stick on the window is on the left or right side of the mirror.

I live in PA with no front license plate requirement. My windshield mount would not consistently register no matter where I put it. Got a new plate mount and double zip tied it to the black front grill and it has worked perfectly ever since. Blends in perfectly and not obvious.

im in San Rafael. You can get a smaller size Bat area Fastrack transponder. I have several vehicles and an account with Bay Area Fastrack. You really dont need to mount the transponder with the active account. As long as your lic plate is in there you are good to go.

Also in PA, and this was exactly my experience. After fussing with various windshield placements (heated windshield probably contributed to the problem) I swapped the transponder for a license plate model and attached with zip ties. Worked perfectly ever since.

Here is another option...someone here once posted that their transponder works fine when mounted to the sunroof glass.

I too gave up on the windshield mounted transponder. Another option for affixing the external transponder is to simply tape it to the grill with 3M VHB tape.

I just got my Defender and mounted the EZ Pass in the "cut out" area next to the mirror. I haven't been on a toll road yet, so I am curious if you are saying that location doesn't read due to the heated windshield.
