Default TOWING: Manual resolves tongue & hitch confusion

With having the vehicle comes a chance to read the manual. I see it calls out two allowed tongue weights as: a) 330 lbs (150 kg) -- being accommodated within the vehicle gross weight (6845 lbs 3105 kg) and allowed rear axle load (3965 lbs 1800 kg) and b) 771 lbs. (350 kg) -- with every pound above 331 lbs. reducing the vehicle gross weight and the rear axle load by the same amount.

Also, the manual recommends load distributing hitches NOT be used. This question was noted by a reader, earlier.

Trailer brakes are required above 1653 lbs (750 Kg).

Thanks for the info. Is it possible to list all the weights in the manual? You've noted the gross vehicle weight does it list the gross combined weight, gross trailer weight etc? (lbs and kgs please). Does it provide any info in the manual about where to install said trailer brakes? I've seen one photo only so far where someone has installed electric trailer brake controller but wondered if there was any more about it in the manual?

Cobber:

The manual has all the weights for all different Defender models and engines in Kg and Lbs. Which couple may I document for you?

Thanks for responding, I'm particularly interested in the P400 and the D300 (if that's in the 2020 manual?).

My manual contains only the petrol engines, as the diesels are not available in North America. The weights (lbs / kg) for the P400 3.0L petrol models are:

110 6 seat: curb wt. 5090 / 2309; Gross vehicle Wt (GVW) 6975 / 3165; Gross Train Wt. (GTW) 15175 / 6885
110 7 seat: curb wt. 5165 / 2343; Gross vehicle Wt (GVW) 7160 / 3250; Gross Train Wt. (GTW) 15365 / 6970

110 7 seat: max front axle load 3370 / 1530; max rear axle load 4185 / 1900
Actual loads on front and rear axles, applied simultaneously, cannot exceed the GVW limits

110 all petrol engine types: maximum roof crossbar load (including the wt. of the roof rails and crossbars):

The maximum tow mass for the P300 is 8201 lbs / 3720 kg

maximum ball mounted accessories mass is 147 lbs / 67 kg

The manual has quite a bit detail on required amp loads of each light to be sensed by the vehicle to know a trailer is attached. I think this is necessary in the new world of LED trailer lights.

Here is the brake statement:
"An electric trailer brake module connector is located near the driver's position. The information in following table should be used to confirm if an electric trailer brake module is compatible with the vehicle..."

These maximum loads are in the table:
Permanent battery feed 30A
Brake Signal 100 mA
Electric brake connection to tow bar electrical socket 30 A

The braked connector is a 7 prong round one (lots of pictures on the web). It sits beside the non-braked, 4 connector flat one.
