Default Transition Treated Windshield

I have been on this forum since November when I ordered my D300 HSE. I ordered it as an option a tinted windshield that functions like a pair of transition eye glasses. Darkens in the sun and lightens in the shade to 90%. I have never heard of anyone else that has ordered this option (325.00) I wonder if it is discontinued or just only offered in really hot and sunny climates....it protects against UV rays and also makes the Defender a bit less noisy....I live in Panama....anyone familiar with this option?

Ours don't have that, and I have never even heard of it. I tint for a living, and even adding a film to the glass that would do this is not something that is possible. I. have seen a film that does this sort of thing for commercial/residential applications, but never for an automobile. I am curious about it now, can you link what you bought?

I was told that the windshield is built with a laminated process that is integrated in the glass. This option is no longer offered on the LR Panama web page.
Now, I sort of wonder if it will be included in my build...I hope so because the sun shines here almost 365 days a year! So, for me it is perfect.

Unfortunately, my Defender has been delayed from Feb to May.....when I finally see it, I will let you know.

I am pretty sure each LR and Jaguar vehicle has a tinted layer in their windshields, all of the ones I have been in does. But it doesn't "transition". It is just a tint layer laminated between the glass. Unless you got something special? I am curious to know now...

My windshield has the heating elements plus some sort of tinting. There are also two small areas on each side of the rear view mirror console where the tinting is removed. I presume this tinting has metallic properties that reduce the transmission strength of signals passing through it. So I put my V1 radar detector in the left non-tinted area and the E-Z pass transponder in the right non-tinted area.

We still have this option on the UK configurator if this is what you mean? But I don't think it actually "transitions" it just filters UV.

Yes, that is exactly what came standard (no extra cost) on my US-spec X-Dynamic model.

Yes, that is exactly what I ordered. I asked about the dark tint and was told that it lightens and darkens.......up to 90%.

Of course many of the sales people don't know much about the car or the accessories.....but I am happy that I ordered it!!!

Thanks for the information

Yeah, I have this too and have had it on other LR vehicles. It is not at all like transition lenses in glasses -- no surprise, but your sales person has no idea what they're talking about if this is the feature they spoke to you about. It does not darken --- it simply helps prevent heat buildup in the car (supposedly). All I noticed is that you're screwed if you put your toll transponder in the wrong place!

Yeah, I didn't think it would actually transition light to dark or vice versa. Good to see other sales people are just as uninformed as ours are.
