Updated 2020 110 X to Pivi 4.3.1 and now a problem
My 2020 Defender X updated to Pivi 4.3.1 last night and now I have a problem. When start-stop engages (ie the motor turns off at a stop light / stop sign), the vehicle turns off as usual, then when I release the brake to move on, I get a series of audible bongs from the instrument cluster, car puts itself into park (or neutral unsure which), gear shifter lights blink, and it says “select gear to manouvre” in the cluster and I can’t move forward. Of course the ***** behind me in traffic honk immediately.
Just putting into drive does nothing. I have to restart the car.
I’m certain it’s directly tied to the software update. I updated at 11pm before going to bed. Then this happened on my first drive at 6:30 am this morning, 4 times. Then I turned off start-stop manually.
Flashback to 2020 all over again. Disappointing. I called JLR customer care and told them about it... But if you have a 2020 I would recommend you do not upgrade to 4.3.1 software.
I just updated mine after I installed my wiper blade. Haven't driven it since the update was installed. I have my car coded to allow for auto stop/start memory, so I wouldn't have known this was a problem. I'll try it out, see what happens and report back, but I wonder if its powertrain related and has to do with the BiSG vs the traditional auto stop starter motor.
Adding in a picture I took of the changelog, which includes updates & bug fixes to "propulsion systems."

Very interesting that a PIVI upgrade can cause that kind of behavior. I also have my stop/start coded for memory. I will check mine out and report back if I find anything unusual.
The 2020 models can not be coded for memory, at least that is what I recall and which i could not get coded to work on my 2020. There is some type of difference in the earlier defenders that prohibit it working. Saying this as the comparison may not be valid.
I would check on mine to see however my 2020 X is in the shop waiting for a new transfer case

Maybe I wasn't clear - I didn't say that coding was the cause. I was saying, since my vehicle is coded for the stop/start memory, and it is always deactivated, I probably wouldn't know/have this problem, since auto/stop/start is always off. I could turn it back on and see if it happens to mine.
Also worth noting that maybe it could be something to do with the MHEV's belt-integrated starter generator (BiSG) vs the P300's traditional starter motor.
I agree it is surprising - It’s not just a PIVI infotainment update. It’s an OTA software update that is updating the modules in the car, in this case the “propulsion systems” which are updating engine management ECU’s. I’m guessing that’s what is causing my issue.
And Cincy you are correct, the 2020’s aren’t able to have start/stop coded permanently off like yours with Gaptool.

4.3.3 released. can you skip the middle ones and go straight to 4.3.3 or do you need to get and install them in order. you guys might never see 4.3.3 unless your install previous ones. Maybe

Per JLR each update is dependent on the previous update, making it impossible to update from say 4.3.1 to 4.3.3. The car will need to be updated to 4.3.2 before it can update to 4.3.3.
