Newbie 110s owner here, I’ve read a learned a lot from the forum so thank you to all the contributors.

What I don’t see is a lot of discussion on dashcams. I have to drive into metro Washington DC every day and seriously need a dash cam to record any incident in this crazy town. When I look on the forum I see some have used the Garmin Mini 2, Blackvue, Fitcamx from Ali express or the OEM camera.

I’ve watched the powerfulUK video which is helpful on the install but the solution still looks bolt on to me. I’m coming from a Jeep Wrangler and bolting on accessories was common and expected but with the Defender I’d like the dashcam to be as integrated to the interior as possible.

Thoughts?

Is the quality of the camera and the interface good enough not to cause much frustration? You’re right, the look is the best.

 

Quality is fine for my purposes, i.e. safety and eventual download of clips when traveling to national parks, trails, overlanding, etc.
Interface not so good when compared to others IMO. The download function using the wireless network is pretty involving and frustrating when connection is lost and reconnected several times. I just use it when I really want to have the clip on my phone. My work around this is to simply extract the memory card and use a reader to save the clips to my laptop and upload to the cloud.

 

In reviewing the FitCamX website and user manual I wasn't able to determine:

1. How accessible is the memory card? Does the unit need to be unmounted to access it?
2. Any ball park estimate as to how many minutes or hours of drive time it's recording for 64GB or 128GB storage cards at 4K (2160p)?
3. Any conflicts with the Defenders general internal Wi-Fi systems for CarPlay, etc.?

Any insights are appreciated. It seems like a sweet setup and a great integrated install with factory look and feel. Considering that as a replacement or supplement to GoPro footage for trips but the integrated setup for general use seems very appealing. The install seems cleaner looking than Land Rover's option

camera quality is decent, you can wire in a rear camera if desired (I did not), and it looks OEM as it just replaces the rain sensor cover on the windscreen. Simple 5 minute install with the provided rain sensor adapter. mine came with the wrong adapter, but the seller sent a replacement out for $1. can view video wirelessly through their app, been very impressed with it for the price.

 

I don't know the FixcamX but I definitely like the packaging.

I would say gold standard - - and what I have -- is Blackvue 900X/970X (newer model is 970 which came out this year). It's $470 vs $168 for the FitcamX. That's a huge difference but the Blackvue looks great and functions perfectly right up under the plastic piece behind my rear view mirror. I want to believe there's better hardware in Blackvue than something ~1/3 the price. Maybe not. Hahahaha

 

After researching all types, the blackvue is worth everything in price. I have it in my C8 and 720S.

 

I have a 70mai A810. It's one of the best dashcam's on the market. Paid £139 for a 4K front + HD back camera + hw wiring kit.
I think there are maybe 2 or 3 other dashcams with the same camera sensor, with slightly better image processing, but they cost £300+.
Connected to my Defender using PowerfulUK's EWL201, so that it looks very neat and professional.
