Default What are the bodies of the 2020+ Defender made of?

I have searched and only find that the monocoque is aluminum and the inside cross beam is magnesium, what are the front fenders, doors, hood, roof, rear fenders, hatch made from? Steel, Aluminum, other? Thanks

I believe the doors are steel while the other exterior panels are aluminum. I watched a 'how it's made' video of the Defender a month or so ago on that aired on UK networks and I if I remember correctly, that is what they said.

I concur with Nanozic.

There is also steel in the floor where the two front seats bolt on -- and I think some steel in the two longitudinal load carrying through u channels and in connecting the rear suspension mounting points (I recall from an article I read a few years ago).

It was interesting to produce some tolerable off-road patina on the right rear quarter and door. The aluminum crinkles and the steel bends. Different.

I for one am very curious about the floor rusting patterns 20 years from now... what will that be like?

Couple reasons:

1 I have had many Discoveries that have had leaks and some have significant floor corrosion after all these years-- sunroof leaks, cowl leaks
2 Currently I have a RRC at a shop getting floors welded up in small places on an otherwise rust free car... highly attuned to floor rust from interior leaks
As for the Defender
3 The floors have plastic that won't let water evaporate, and foam under them. So if you do hose them out or get them wet, that water's going to sit for years
4 LR has hilariously not solved the water ingress issues (D5 windshield, TSB about Defender 110's after wading leaking from places, 90 Apillar leaks, etc etc... all the way back to D2 sunroofs and every old Defender/RRC/Series/Disco)
5 They are encouraging us all to wade like crazy in these Defenders! And some of us really will test that capability

In other words, a used Defender in 2035... I will be very curious about the floors. But because of the multiple material strategy -- On an otherwise well taken care of Defender, but with wet / damp floors -- what happens with all the seams between the steel sections and aluminum pans? Become corroded. Etc Etc Etc.

All doors and front fenders (wings) are steel, bonnet is aluminum.

JLR designers are now diplomats, it seems:

“The body of the new Defender is aluminum intensive. There are other materials used strategically around the body and vehicle but we’ve only used the right material in the right place, each for a benefit.”

My magnet tells be different. All bolted on panel except the bonnet are steel. I was a bit let down by this as my F-Type is all aluminum.
