Anyone know what this box is in the cargo area of this particular 2020 Defender X?
I know the narrow box to the left with the **** is the air compressor. Dealer told me “they all have that box”. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen defenders without it. Just curious.

I believe that is the rear air conditioning unit.

 

That’s the AC unit for the cargo area. You should have an AC dial opposite of that, but you can also control it via the main display unit.

 

Yes, and the Defenders that *do not* have the box are the Defenders without 3rd row cooling assist ! I had this same question when I was looking at them years ago !

 

but no 3rd row seat model on picture...yet they installed a/c unit and rear vents.

 

I use it when I have my dogs in the cargo area. Even the display has a dog picture when you try to turn it on.

 

Yeah, the Defender I just bought CPO has it (5 seats). I guess it’s meant for animals in the back. Kinda neat. But, I don’t have any pets and therefore it just takes up some cargo space and will never get used. Novel idea though

 

Same with mine - 5-seater and we have the rear AC to keep the luggage cool
