Default Wheel/tire suggestions

Purchased a 110 a couple of months ago. Have been trying to read through the forum on the wheel tire issue.

Came stock with 20's (which I don't love, but also don't hate)

Would like black/dark grey (Defender is white) wheels and tires that are slightly taller than stock and more of an AT tread design than stock.

I see few options in the 19" wheels.

A lot of options in 18's, but then it looks like you have to swap out the brake calipers.

Thoughts/suggestions?

Thank you!

As you said, there are a lot of threads related to tires here.
My $0.02, 19" are stupid (yes, I have them and they are sitting in my garage not mounted), waiting for someone to make decent winter rubber (the only one I know of is the P winter 2, but haven't seen any reviews of it). I did the 18" caliper swap, and loving it.

hey tbrown, did you go the "recommended" Tuffant rim? not that keen on any of their designs and inflated prices, methods gave the same load rating but even they don't cost as much.

Assuming you have a P400, then yes, you will have to either grind or swap the rear calipers to make 18" wheels fit. 20" wheels are plenty fine for off-roading 80% of the time - you still have plenty of sidewall. The maximum diameter tire you can fit on a Defender without modifications is 32.6."

I originally specced the 19" wheels on my Defender, and that was a mistake. I swapped them out for a set of 20" Style 516 wheels from an LR4 XXV Edition on Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws sized LT265/60R20. They have a different offset to the standard Defender 20" wheel, but they fit just fine. I highly recommend the Wildpeaks - good on-road, excellent off-road, fantastic wet and snow grip and they aren't too loud at highway speeds. There are a quite a few other users on this forum that run Wildpeaks and love them.

Just throwing this out there for those who also have a somewhat useless stack of 19” wheels in their garage… I was just able to put an order in for Michelin 255/65R19 X-ICE SNOW tires from Costco. I’ve been trying to order daily for a couple weeks ever since I saw someone post about that size coming soon. About a week ago Michelin claimed Costco and Tirerack had them in stock but neither had any idea when they might show.

It will be a couple weeks before they are installed on the wheels and it might be a bit longer before there are serious winter conditions to test them in around here but I will post my impressions.

Also, next year the BFG KO3 will be available in 255/65R19. I'll probably swap my 19s back on and get those when my current 20" Wildpeaks need to be replaced.

noticed the BFG website too - it says the 255/65/19 is going to be made in 2025. I have to think that it's being made specifically for the Defender's smallest off road rim choice available, and maybe BFG figures enough off road Defenders on 19s are out there to the extent they will make the tires now to fit them? It would be great if that's what BFG had in mind, but we'll see when it comes out if tire shops are eager to put them on the growing population of Defenders driving about.

Tire shops will put on whatever you want. They probably won't keep any in stock, as it is a JLR-specific tire size, and there aren't many JLR products out on the road compared to commodity brands and other luxury automakers. Any tire shop would order a set and install them if that is what you want to put on.

Grinding down the intrusive fins of the rear calipers is a less expensive approach and makes for an easy DIY project if so inclined. If you don't care for TuffAnt styling, look at Method. I've heard a lot of good things about those wheels. Don't go with 19s. If off-roading is in play, then do yourself a favor and go 18s. It will save you a lot of heartache and money in the long run.
