Where buy Castrol Edge Professional in the USA?
#11
We are at a very exciting moment, for those who like our suppliers and auto manufacturer to be synchronized in what they require owners to do with what is available.
Many are still recovering from the inconsistency of our Land Rover dealers independently deciding to depart from putting 5W-20 Castrol in our LR4 V8 engines meeting the required Ford WSS-M2C925-A spec -- instead shifting to 0W-20 meeting the same Ford Spec. We come to learn through digging into this with mechanics at the dealers that customers at cold weather locations were finding the 5W-20 oil unable to flow adequately at start-up to not cause problems -- thus, U.S. dealers (unless directed otherwise by the customer) were to use 0W-20, instead. Then, the requests became void when we learned that the dealers were not keeping in stock the 5W-20 referenced in the manual, anyway.
Then we learned that in desert climates, one really must use the 5W-20 weight oil -- see the current specs here:
Engine oil.
2.0 L Petrol. SAE 0W-20 meeting Jaguar Land Rover specification STJLR.03.5006, or STJLR.51.5122.
3.0 L Petrol. SAE 0W-20 meeting Jaguar Land Rover specification STJLR.03.5006, or STJLR.51.5122. Cold climate markets*: SAE 0W-20 meeting Jaguar Land Rover specification STJLR.51.5122.
MENA (middle east & north africa) markets: due to market specific requirements, SAE 5W-20 meeting Jaguar Land Rover specification STJLR.03.5004.
5.0 L Petrol. SAE 0W-20 meeting Jaguar Land Rover specification STJLR.03.5006, or STJLR.51.5122.
MENA markets: due to market specific requirements, SAE 5W-20 meeting Jaguar Land Rover specification STJLR.03.5004.
When I bought my 2020 P300 Defender, I got to 2K miles and learned that purchasing the necessary oil, according to the manual is not possible. So, I went with the Castrol SAE 0W-20 oil meeting the Ford spec, which is the same which the dealers would use, changing the oil every 4K until I got to 10K miles.
Now I am approaching 6K miles, and am ready to change the oil soon, and am excited to learn the promised oil with the 21K spec capability is available -- the Mobil 1 ESP X2 OW-20. So, this morning I order three cases (18 Qts) off of Amazon at $10 per Quart -- less $$ than I expected.
I am still not going to go above 5k miles without changing the oil, but it's a happy thing to know I theoretically could push it to 21K (which I could never bring my old habits to adopt).
Yes, I do like changing oil. Nice existential time with the vehicle .....
Enjoy !

Not unless it has the "E" or "EC" suffixes following the SAE 0W-20 oil weight. The 5-quart black jugs of Edge Advanced Full Synthetic motor oil you find on Amazon (among many other sources) have the "US" suffix and don't meet either JLR standards. Too bad, because they are cheap.

The older version was 0W-20E which wasn't ACEA C5 certified. The new one you can buy now are the 0W20 EC which is C5 certified.
Below is what I got from Castrol.
Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20 replaces Castrol EDGE Professional E 0W-20.
Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20 combines the cold climate performance of Castrol EDGE Professional E 0W-20 (STJLR.51.5122 oil spec) and the fuel economy of Castrol EDGE Professional E C5 0W-20 (STJLR.03.5006 oil spec) into one product.
Currently Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20 is only available for purchase through Jaguar and Land Rover dealership locations.
Castrol EDGE 0W-20 EC (replaces Castrol EDGE 0W-20 E) sold retail in a 1 quart bottle size is also available covering Land Rover STJLR.51.5122 and STJLR.03.5006 oil specifications.

Ok got more info from Castrol. Apparently the 5 qt from Amazon is diff from 1 qt from Walmart. Below is what I got from them today. The product you purchased as below, Castrol EDGE 0W-20 U.S., is a different oil than Castrol EDGE 0W-20 EC.
Castrol EDGE 0W-20 U.S. does not meet the STJLR.03.5006 oil specification therefore this oil would NOT be recommended for use in your 2021 Land Rover Defender vehicle.
Please note that Castrol EDGE 0W-20 EC is only available for purchase in a 1 quart size bottle at this time.
If you are unable to find Castrol EDGE 0W-20 EC via your local retail space, please contact your local Land Rover dealership so to purchase Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20.
Castrol EDGE 0W-20 EC is available for purchase through retailers such as Wal-Mart, Advance Auto Parts, AutoZone, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Pep Boys, NAPA Auto Parts and by select quick lubes, dealerships and auto service centers around the country as well as online via www.walmart.com and www.amazon.com.
The availability of specific Castrol products are dependent on the location and purchasing options in your area. The above-mentioned national retailers who carry Castrol products order their products from their distribution warehouse, who in turn, order the product from us. Generally, retailers base the product line that they sell heavily upon consumer demand therefore we are unable to advise you of a specific retail location that carries a specific Castrol product so we suggest that you call the retail location directly to inquire about specific product availability for that store or for any other area store location.
