I think the L663 has terrible wipers. They are so streaky…

Could the first swipe do this to get more water on there? OTA update could enable

Buy new blades. Clean the winsdhield with a proper windshield cleaner (Jag screen clean). Do not polish it with Brillo pads or whatever people recommend online, btw

Mine are perfect, non streaky, no complaints whatsoever other than the wiper motor sounds like my elementary school bus wiper motor.

I'd think you have an issue with contamination.

The windshield cleaner is good advice and I will try it.

I’ve owned a 2020 and a 2023 defender. I actually changed the wipers on the first one, and the 23 has less than 4K miles. All 3 sets of wipers have been subpar, compared to the other vehicles I’ve owned, even my prior Land Rover!

No streaks on mine. Yours must be needing replacement

Contaminant buildup may definitely be an issue. One hack I’ve viewed and tried, is wiping the blades with a clean dry microfiber towel with a small amount of WD-40, and then wiping any excess off with a paper towel. Hey, nothing to lose by trying it.

Default Definitely buy new (non OEM) blades.

One of the first things I do with a new vehicle is replace the OEM wiper blades. Most OEM blades suck. It’s a $50 upgrade and takes less than five minutes to install (or auto parts store will do for free if you prefer). My personal favorite is Bosch Icon blades.

Since this post is titled ‘the windshield wipers suck’, it is apparent that the issue is not the wiper arms, since their only function is to move the blades across the windshield. Invest in a better quality wiper blade and those problems will disappear.

Any recommendations for better wipers? Mine chatter like crazy. Bosch Icon doesn't seem to fit according to their vehicle fit guide.

At the Bosch website there are several choices that fit the Defender, although the Icon version is not listed as you noted. I’m sure one of the other choices would fare just as well.

I rarely use the wipers but mine work fine. In the past I was a Rain-X guy (my go to for the last 30+years) and now I go the extra mile and polish all the glass with CarPro Cerimide and use a long lasting coating. Now the rain just washes away faster than the blades can hit it.
