I joined the cracked windshield club July 26th. Today, the folks at Safelite are putting OEM glass back on. They tried yesterday but had issues connecting up the calibration, but today they're working in my driveway. This is a Sun Attenuated HUD windshield, OEM. So just over 30days to get the OEM windshield.
They were able to replace it with non OEM but the installer told me to get the OEM as i only have 7500 miles on the car and when it's that new the insurance will cover it, i figured why not. They did have the non-OEM in stock back in July.
Interesting.. Safelite told my wife and I that there was no non-OEM available for the Defender (maybe it was just the heated screens..)
Follow up on replacement windshield saga. The wife has been busy all week making phone calls to every autoglass business in our area. She had found that the closest dealership to use does have the correct glass in stock and I can get the work done immediately. However, if I choose to have the dealer handle the replacement I will have to pay the bill up front and seek reimbursement from my insurance company with no idea at this point what amount they will agree to cover. If I use Safelite who is the prefered installer of my insurance company (Travelers), it is no fee 100% covered, but a 2-3 month wait.
Here's the best part.. the dealer quoted me $1987 +tax for the windshield and $1674 +tax for install/calibration ($3981 out the door)!!! They are smoking crack!
Looks like I'm waiting for Safelite to get me the OEM glass for zero out of pocket.
I've been awaiting a windshield since July and it just came in recently (originally had a no ETA). My dealer uses a specialty shop and said don't use safelite because of the calibration work that is required to be done by the dealer immediately after the replacement. Not sure on cost yet as it's covered by insurance less a small deductible.
I had my windshield replaced by safelite. I have no issues with the replacement. They did the calibration at there shop, so no need for the dealer to be involved. They did not replace with an OEM, but as far as I can tell it is the same windshield as what was there before. I have a heated windshield with the solar blocking (the one with the small cut outs of the film near the review mirror).
Talked to my LR dealership today in Marin county, Ca, and they confirmed the back order is now pushed back til October. This is for a HUD, heated window. Not sure what other options are on it. But I’ve had my windshield needing to be replaced since April ish.
