Default Solaros Christmas Camping Event

So a facebook alert popped into my que today for the Georgia Land Rovers Club, sharing a link to the Solaros Christmas Camping Event. I was instantly up for going, and I waited patiently for my daughter to get done with her Tennis Lesson so I could see if she wanted to go. I asked her as soon as she climbed in the LR3 and she wasted no time in saying yes.

I was really surprised to find that this is a free event, that is really great of the club and a member specifically to do.

The campgrounds are the setting for the event at https://www.lanierislands.com/

A treat and a nod to how family friendly this event is after dinner on Saturday night the group will line up the Rovers and drive through the Magical Lights Display. https://www.lanierislands.com/lanier...magical-lights.

So we will be packing up the warm clothes, hot coco, Big Buddy heater and a 20 lbs tank of Propane and setting off for a great camping weekend.

Here is the info from the SOLAROS page, and I can confirm they have opened up registration again for a few more days. So if you are in the area get registered and come out to enjoy the Rover Fellowship!

We also plan to have a group dinner at the Bullfrogs restaurant on Saturday night. Following dinner Saturday, we will all get in our trucks and create a convoy through millions of legendary lights that Lake Lanier Islands is known for every year. Even if you can’t camp, feel free to come out for dinner, lights and camaraderie.

The campground is adjacent to the old, shut down golf course on the island and Mike has offered it to us a fun “playground” for our trucks

Here are the details for this FREE event, only available to SOLAROS:

Camping: Friday, December 8th thru Sunday, December 10th
Dinner: Bull Frog’s Bar and Grille inside the Legacy Lodge (7000 Lanier Islands Parkway, Buford, GA 30518) on Saturday, December 9th at 5:0pm. Everyone pays for their own dinner and we’ll have a reserved section just for our group.
Lights: Convoy through the Magical Lights after dinner.
Entrance info: YOU WILL NEED TO TELL THE GATE AT THE ENTRANCE THAT YOU ARE WITH THE SOLAROS EVENT FOR THE WEEKEND – your park entrance fee will be waived.
**You don’t have to camp in order to join us for dinner and lights on Saturday. The more, the merrier!

We look forward to seeing you at our annual Christmas dinner and camping!

If you are planning to attend any part of the weekend, please register on this site by Friday, December 1st.

Oh and as always feel free if you see me to stop say hi and get a www. LandRoverForums.com sticker

So I had picked up a Husky Job box for my trailer project. I decided to load it out and see how it worked for me. Really impressed with how much I could stuff in it, with room to spare.

Loaded the truck out for the most part as well.

So took off early on Friday and got my daughter picked up as soon as the school would let me lol. We then turned west for the 3 hour drive. It was raining in n Augusta which turned to sleet which turned to snow by the time we made it Lake Lanier.

So we we're a bit lost trying to find the other campers and having no luck. When we ran into a newer Range Rover all kitted out holding Don and his family lost as well. So we linked up and he stopped someone that guided us back into the campground and down the right path. We were greeted to the sight of about 6 other crazy people who had decided to camp.

We got to work getting camp set up as it was bouncing between snow and rain. Once we had the basic set up done we got some dry clothes on and went around to talk with folks.

Than back at camp we made hot chocolate and pizza for dinner. Than into the tent and fired up the big buddy heater to keep the chill off.

We will see how today goes it's still raining right now but it is early.

Winter camping, good stuff. Is it unusual to have snow down there this time of year?

Told my oldest grandson we'd do a winter camping trip...have to get going on that. Thanks, for the inspiration.

Brian.

I think it is abnormal to have snow in Atlanta. Lots if businesses were closed down and chaos had ensued lol.

We think if it was the norm Georgia is great nice and warm and we can go visit the snow if we miss it lol

Ok so back home now, unloaded and showered.

So what a great group of folks the SOLAROS club are. This event is a great time especially for families. The camp sites have views that need to be seen to be believed. Everyone as usual in the Rover Community are super friendly and welcoming of new faces. The amazing part is that it is a free event so adding to the amazing campgrounds is the Magical Light fest, that is something like 7.5 miles of Christmas lights.

We did a green laning trip on the closed golf course on Saturday afternoon, that was great fun. As I know a one point or another every Rover owner has looked at a Golf course and thought it would be so much fun to go running around on it. So we did just that, and it was as awesome as I hoped. (yes I'm actually like 5 years old). So as we are cruising the golf course we come up to a 100 ft section of lake between the mainland and a small Island. So across we go. On the way back I got a little off the line and went into some deeper water put the corner of the LR3's hood under water. She lugged through and right back up and out. Even better it didn't short out and quit running.

So a bit more running around and waving to a Bride and her Groom as we passed the Club House. We stopped back at camp to chat with those that had just arrived. Only about 5 trucks were crazy enough to set up camp the night before in the rain/snow. Then everyone loaded up and headed to the Legacy Lodge, where the Bullfrog Bar and Grill was prepared for us to show up and have a great meal. The service was top notch and the food was great as well.

As a the meal came to a end and checks were settled, we lined up in the parking lot to tour the lights in a Rover congo line. It was a fantastic show and I think we now have a picture of every light in the parade Once that was done it was back to camp to tuck in for the evening. So we had some cheesecake and hot coco than fired up the big buddy heater and a The Perfect Roadtrip top gear episode and enjoyed a bit of relaxation to end the night.

This morning was spent tearing down camp, chatting with some great folks and breakfast.

Then as soon as the weekend began we were back in the driveway unloading the LR3.

You really have to respect the LR3, loaded down for camping, hitting the trails or driving through a lake in comfort while lifted and kitted up for off road. Than smooth down the highway at 75mph all day long without missing a beat and comfortable.

I am really surprised at how much I like the LR3 it really is a fantastic truck. Need to get some better tires on mine. 10k miles in the last couple months have pretty much killed the General AT2 I have on it.
