anyone diy wrap their truck? I was planning to repaint, but its just going to get scratched up, again. thinking if I wrap it (if i can do it myself) I can just redo the individual panels as needed. i like the look of ellebarto's defender and the video was inspiring. most of the vids, all seem sped up and not real helpful.
so....
anyone have any experience? I am interested to know how it would hold up to the woods. I think, I would rather drive a scratched up truck, rather than one that looks like a tethered flag. but that vinyl has to be pretty tough, right?

 

Ive been wanting to plasti-dip mine for a while... Seems like it would be easier than vinyl to touch up after an excursion

 

I haven't plasti-dipped the 110 yet, but I did the MGB last year and I've been very happy with it.

You can peel and redo individual panels if needed. It goes on easy comes off easy and best of all it's cheap. I'll be peeling it and spraying it a different color here in about a week. Going with a yellow pearl this time around instead of the royal blue pearl in the picture. It runs me about $150-200 to do the MGB it would be less if I quit doing pearls in the dip.

If you do a spray wax on it like megiuars or lucas it seems to take care of the rubber feel of the coating and makes cleaning off scuffs etc easy. It's held up really well, in the sun rain and snow.

 

that ^does look good. I am wanting a tough finish... tired of the constant accumulation of pin stripes.

The plasti dip is surprisingly strong stuff. It didn't give up without a fight on the MGB today. It's all stripped now to strip trim etc to be ready to spray it on Saturday.

 

well, I got a quote, for line x. about the same as a paint job.
i have not seen it on a disco, or any lr (in person just interweb pics). I like the looks, of it, on the jeeps and the couple of trucks, I have seen.

any input on why's or why nots would be appreciated. also, I am sure that less costly bed liner type products exist, but not sure how they compare.


so....what we think? crazy or not?

 

I was going to plasti-dip my rims before I found the black steelies. But now I am going to do the flat black on the hood. My plan is to put the gen - right louvers on the hood and spray over them.

 

I think most shy away from it because it really doesn't look good in person in my opinion. I've seen a RRC in person that was done and it looked like hell.

I think most shy away from it for the looks and the tacti-cool stigma of it.

 

How long is the plastic dip expected to last on say a non offroaded vehicle?

 

I've heard 3-4 years before it needs to be redone.
