Reworked the light bar bracket from the Dll and threw it up top. Me, my eye says maybe a bigger light is needed...maybe 6" (4" now ). But, then part of me says...they look okay and threw pretty good light before (not hooked up yet).
Started working on a swing out tire carrier yesterday. Still need to finish rack, but l want to purchase grate flooring before welding in final suports, for correct spacing. Part of me says roof top tent...and the other says inside...decisions, decisions...lol.
Added a couple crossmembers to the racks center structure and tubing along rear. Painted it up and remounted. Added some "One Life, Live It" stickers front and rear. Powerwashed engine and frame, made the mistake of adding 5W30 synthetic...what a mistake with this old beast...she bled out like she was gut shot. Changed oil back to 15W40 Dinosaur...and stopped the blood loss.
Looking forward to picking up my front bumper next week and really moving forward with this "second longest build in Land Rover history".
5/30 synthetic in an old Defender - sorry man I could not resist. That 15/40 is the recommended, the fellow who bought my 72 Triumph Bonneville motor cycle had the problem after he rebuilt it tried a lightweight synthetic poured out everywhere. That old beast needs a 20/40 synthetic motorcycle oil.
Yeah, l should know better...had the same results on both my old Porsches. Anything synthetic...and you were cleaning the garage floor. Neither had ever been resealed. If you reseal the engine with modern seals/gaskets, then there is hope.
Yeah, for what l have invested...she turned out okay. Bought the rack, which is a truckbed ladder rack, off craigslist for $100.00, then took the up-rights off, shorten it up, and fabbed up some mounting brackets at work, painted it ($25.00), will add chicken coup plastic flooring ($85.00), then l'll have about $200.00 into it total. I'm working on a swing-out spare tire carrier, but have ran into a head-scratcher on mounting it...but, l'll figure out something. It will hold high lift jack also, so she's going too need to be stoutly mounted.
