I

I’ve been here a year now learning from everyone on this site and fixing up my disco. I figured it’s about time I started a build thread for the green bastard as I see I’m only falling further down the rover hole. I’ll try to post up what I’ve done over the last year and plan to do next

I also installed a tom woods front shaft, all new brakes and changed out all the cooling lines under the hood. Changed to green antifreeze. I figured out the truck was originally from Atlanta, never saw salt yet. So I had it oil sprayed when I safetied it

I ll probably forget some of the work I’ve done, I rebuilt the drivers side window regulator with parts from another truck, pulled the headliner down and sprayed it with bedliner, installed a cb, installed a newer radio, redid the throttle body heater, put on some used running boards for my kids and wife to get in and out, installed a turbo muffler, new pulleys and belt.

since I started I’ve bought 4 more rovers, 2 gold discos for parts, another green one I’ve since sold to a friend who I helped get it road worthy and a p38 that I’ve fixed up for my dad to drive

I built my own front bumper out of a chunk of 1/4” wall 8x8 square tube, made some bull bars from pipe, and put in a warn power plant 9500 I had picked up used.

I reinforced the center console for the switch bezel

I stuffed all the bad door seals with foam backer rod to seal it up tight

I redid the blower fan with air tool oil to quiet it up

I’ve done most everything that I’ve seen needed fixing as it shows up. I truly love driving it, love it’s style and capabilities. It tows great, hauls me, the wife and 3 kids great. Would be better with the seven seats to keep some buffer room between the kids eventually. I’ve off-roaded it locally and done some longer trips so far with no issues.
My head gaskets are almost toasted. External leaks so far. I have been wanting to do the ls conversion but can’t wait any longer.
So I bought a p38 with the 4.6 over the phone today. My plan is to go through the motor after I get it. Perhaps install a cam, oil pump and timing chain/gears. All new gaskets , water pump, planed heads and valve job. if It need bearings and machining I’ll address it as I go. The p38 will be delivered in a few days as part of the deal. It also has a coil conversion that might end up on my p38. Win win.
If anyone has suggestions for a cam and which are the best rebuild parts for the money please chime in.
