Not one site I went to mentioned pairing anything other than the ANR4851 lug nuts with either the TF or ProComp steel wheels. I've read several forum posts about these wheels and nothing mentioned like this. OE hubs are @ $500 a corner.......

TRIARII 06-30-2019 11:39 PM

I'am mostly confused and at loss here guys. But firstly let's get the record straight. The front hubs are original genuine as far as I know. I replaced both rear hubs last year with Proline hubs from Rovers North. I called Lucky 8 and spoke to Mike who handled the original order which included 5 steel Terrafirma wheels and lug nuts. I told him I had some genuine center caps and asked if the lug nuts he was selling me would be compatible with the caps and wheels and he said as far as he knows. So when I got the wheels and lugs I had Town Fair Tire swap over the BFG tires to the steelies and throw on the new steel lugs and center caps. I was annoyed when the guys there informed me that the center caps dont fit with those lugs. So I called Lucky 8 back and spoke to Eric. I told him that the center caps dont fit on my steel wheels with those lugs and asked him if her has any other type of lug nuts that are compatible with the center caps and Terrafirma steel wheels. He suggested ANR4851 which are the bigger lugs. When I got those in the mail I installed them myself and was excited because now I could get the center caps installed to. Ever since my wheels have been causing the steering wheel to vibrate at 45 and 65 mph respectively. That's when i decided to bring the truck back to Town Fair Tire to have the wheels checked and rebalanced. They told me that the ANR4851 lugs are too big and are chewing the metal on the steel wheels. I called Lucky 8 back while I was at the shop and spoke to Eric. I handed the phone over to the store manager of Town Fair Tire and had him explain to Eric the extent of the damage. Afterwards Eric told me he would be willing to reimburse me $90 for the ANR4851 lug nuts I bought and have me send them back. Told him I'd think about it. Got off the phone left the shop to retrieve the smaller lugs I had in storage. Went back to Town Fair Tire thinking that if they put the smaller lugs back on that all would be well again. But they removed more of the lugs then decided the damage was too severe and that they cannot touch the wheels at all now. I called Lucky 8 back that day and left a voice message and again a couple days later and spoke to Mike and he said he would have Eric call me back. I recieved one email from someone at lucky 8 as follows:

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/landrov...7ba606bc4e.jpg

I responded back citing that I do not believe that neither the wheels or the lug nuts where defective and that filling a claim with the manufacturer is besides the point at hand. I argued that they sold me a product that they claimed was compatible with my truck/wheel combination and as a result my wheels are damaged. I went on to say that when I order auto parts from a sales person, I expect them to be informed on what parts are and are not compatible with my vehicle and for them to warn me if a part I want to purchase is not compatible. I would never knowing install incorrect lug nuts on my truck! I explained to them that this is my daily driver and that I have a family who depends on me to get them to work and back safely.

And to top it off the $650 lift kit I also ordered from them was delivered shy of 2 shocks. In the last month or so I have spent over $1000 at Lucky 8 and now they are ignoring my emails and Eric nor Justin will return my calls any further. I acted responsibly when speaking with them and did not use any insults or foul language. I simply asked them to take responsibility for their role and to please make this right. It's been over a week now and I've gotten no where.

I gave tough decisions to make. I wish these wheels could be saved but I imagine that its wishful thinking and that iam going to have to dish out another $500 on 5 more new wheels. Not to mention the $600 I spent getting my first set of wheels zinc primed and powder coated. Life is a bitch sometimes.

And Iam confused because trained tire/wheel professionals are saying that these larger lugs ANR4851 are too big for these wheels. Meanwhile some of you folks are suggesting that actually in contrast to what the Town Fair Tire specialist are saying, you claim that the bigger ANR4851 lugs are for these steel Terrafirma wheels. I spent a good amount of time research around the web and cannot find an absolute definite answer on which set of lug nuts are safely compatible with these 16" Terrafirma wheels. If they are compatible then I can't very well be mad at Lucky 8nfor selling me them the second time around; although it would annoy me more so why when I first ordered the steel wheels, why they included the smaller lugs?????.

Also I've been doing some reading up on hub centric vs lug centric and seems that most vehicle manufacturers use hub centric design. Most aftermarket wheels are lug centric. Discount tire website states: "Substituting a lug-centric wheel in place of a hub-centric wheel can decrease reliability, especially in high wheel-loading and impact- loading environments.'

They go on to say: "Some aftermarket manufacturers provide a spacer that goes in the gap to mimic a hub-centric design. The spacer looks like a large washer that fits in the gap between the hub and wheel. It is designed to contact both the wheel and hub and acts as a means of transferring lug loads to the hub."

https://www.machinedesign.com/fasten...centric-wheels

so with this in mind why would anyone with a heavily loaded 4x4 SUV use lug centric steel wheels without a spacer that mimics hub centric design? The idea of the hub studs bearing all the load and abuse makes me feel uneasy. Is there a specific space ring that is compatible with Disco 2? That can be used with Terrafirma steel wheels?

Hub centric is best, stud centric is weaker. And as I stated before...the smaller lug nut is your correct nut. Post some pictures of your rim stud holes, you may be able to buy a coned grinding wheel for your drill motor...and clean them up enough to work.

Or get a measurement of the hub and wheel center and order from these folks; https://www.justforwheels.com/index....sub=searchsize

So when you installed the larger lug nuts, did you pay attention to make sure the wheel was centered on the hub and the nut centered on the wheel stud hole??
How about some pics of the nuts sitting on/in the wheel stud hole off the truck? Do the tapers on each nut fit into the wheel stud hole?

Wheel adaptors

So I've been reaching extensively to various manufacturers and suppliers in the UK. They have been most helpful so far even when it was concluded that they did not have what Iam looking for. Anyways Rimmer Bros referred me to a fabricator company in the UK called Rakeway precision & motorsport engineers. I emailed them and asked if they make any wheel adaptors for Discovery 2 that will enable Defender steel wolf wheels to be installed. His response gives me hope:

"Hi Julian
Thank you for your enquiry. We can supply you with our adaptors which will fit your 120PCD Disco 2 axle and allow you to fit the 165.1 PCD Wolf Rims off a Defender

5 off will cost £315
Shipping to 0380 New Hampshire is £128.76

If you wish to go ahead with an order please let me know and I will email you an Invoice for payment.

Look forward to hearing from you

I don't understand the boner people get for steel wheels. They're heavy and the Wolf wheels don't hold a bead very well.

Yeah when I had Jeeps everyone had steel wheels. I understand steel wheels will bend vs crack, but the OEM LR wheels are extremely tough! On my 03 D2 I had from the day it was new I had to avoid an accident in front of me by going over the 8inch curb at probably 45-50MPH! I didn’t pop a tire (thanks double bead) and the wheels had a very small flat spot on them that wasn’t even noticeable with the tire on the wheel.

I had a set of steel wheels for 4 years & I sold them.

TRIARII 07-04-2019 07:30 AM

Today I removed each wheel, inspected the lug holes then remounted each wheel one at a time; doing my best to make sure each wheel is properly centered around the hub. I ended up using a flat head screwdriver to manipulate the wheels into the desired position then slowly tightened one lug at a time. When examining the lug holes I could definitely see where the powder coating is peeling off where the lug mates with the wheels. But the holes themselves dont appear to be warped or oval shaped. However Iam not an expert and I do not know what is acceptable or what is red flag. I took pictures of each wheel after I cleaned them up and mounted them back on the truck.

After words I tested the truck on the highway and noticed a difference. The steering wheel does not vibrate at 65-70mph anymore but occasionally around 45-50 when you let off the accelerator. But as soon as you apply the brakes or accelerate the vibrations in the steering wheel go away instantly. I do feel some minor vibrations in the wheels though. I cant really tell if its normal considering the k02 tires and heavy steel wheels iam running or if it's a sure sign of an issue. It's also worth noting that when I had the wheels first mounted the guys at the tire shop asked me of I wanted the balancing weights applied on the inside of the wheel or the outside. They said some folks with steel wheels put them on the inside and it looks better so I thought it over and told them to put the weights on the inside of each wheel. Could this be an issue? Perhaps these lug centric wheels require the balancing weights to be applied on the outside of the wheels?

I've also noticed that the hub studs dont go all the way through the lugs. Does not look right in my opinion but again iam not an expert of wheels. Also I cant find any info on the recommended torque for these ANR4851 lugs and tf steel wheels. Lucky 8 claims that it's not the Land Rover specification used for the alloys but did not explain what the torque should be.
