It is not easy to explain why so many screws.Style of this truck is bolts and rivets. And floor is 1/8 in that area.I guess i am going to be screwed next time I will have to open that cover.

Nice tight work, are you going to shorten the beast. The last time I saw a rover at this point, it lost a couple of feet of tailend. Also, is that 1" 1/2 or 1" 7/8th tubing for the rear sub frame.

Subframe is 1 3/4 inch and lengthwise it is going to be 3 inch shorter on the back.

Default brake work

Hi there. I'm new to the site but have been getting reading material and knowledge from all of you for quite a while now. I have a fascination with what you have done to the brake system. This past weekend my master cylinder failed and I replaced it. During the ordeal of bleeding the brakes the rear calipers bled just fine but I could not get brake fluid through the modulator to either front calipers. I do however have pressure to the modulator just not from it to the front calipers. My brake pedal does not want to depress either. Again the rear brakes bled fine. Am I looking at a big expense here or not. If I am I would just rather go with what you have done. I will be building it up as soon as all mechanical bugs are worked out of it. I'll start with a 2"OME suspension lift as well as a 2" body lift and then start doing other stuff. It is and will be a regular daily driver. Any help will be very much appreciated, Thanx!

Lee welcome to the forum.I scraped my modulator because my brakes were bad.I didn't want to deal with modulator. Now my brakes are good but I don't have ABS.Most old series Land Rovers don't have it ether , and they brake just fine.It is your call what you want to do.If you decide to eliminate modulator , you don't have to buy anything. All parts you need are on the truck. However if you want to repair modulator , there is a guy in this forum who made very nice write up how to do it rather inexpensively he goes by name jycsalas and this is his work...

Default Love it!

Well yesterday after posting I decided that waiting was not an option. As I mentioned, the disco is a daily driver. Its one of two cars in a two adult dual income, 5 kid family. I had originally discovered a brake problem with a leaking master cylinder. After replacing it I happened upon the modulator problem while attempting to bleed the brakes. A week prior to the braking incident the trans started shifting rough and late. I was obviously bummed! So, yesterday I took inventory of needed supplies and drove the only running vehicle in our home, my 1981 goldwing. I spent 30 bucks on parts & supplies and came home started the removal and rerouting of the brake lines. three hours later job done. I used the mounting bracket left over from the modulator to remount the existing valve. It would not start up for me so I had to assume that the power to the modulator needed to be jumpered, I was right. I have put 50 miles on it now and it brakes like it never has before and it mysteriously lost the shifting problem? What would one have to do with the other? I dont care as long as the shifting problem stays gone. I have the modulator if anyone wants it to rebuild it. I cant wait to get busy on modifying my Disco1. Thanx for your post & pics that saved me so much $!!!!

I don' see how the brakes could possibly affecting the tranny shifting.

I did read one about the E-Brake not allowing the vehicle to roll forward, they thought it was tranny going ad, but it was parking brake getting to tight.

Check your tranny fluid level. When was it last serviced?

I have some brake lines that will need replaced soon. My ABS is starting to act up with slight un-commanded activation. I think I will just pull the fuse.

...and this is repair...aluminum welding is not fun , I had to use argon as a welding shielding gas , and my garage looked like smoke house ...I have few more repairs like that to do but this time I will create big draft with fans before I start to weld .

Looks like you did a hell of a job with the aluminum welding though. Good job.
