Yes, that vin number plate looks very clean for that year vehicle. My 1989 is pretty ugly.
Just checked out link. Sure used their fair share of undercoating underneath. Bump-stops are missing over rear axle, and this shows true nature of rust where they were mounted. Backing plates on axle look very rusty, where they missed with undercoating. That exhaust repair looks hokey on y-pipe. Do you have any LR friends that could maybe do an inspection for you. Plus, that vin tag...l'd need to see some sort of verification from LR about its authenticity.
I agree. I have looked at HUNDREDS of Defenders for purchase. I can tell you with certainty that the VIN tag is NOT original.
But, that doesn't mean it's fake. The original VIN tag may be been damaged (for whatever reason) and then LR sent over a newer VIN tag that was authorized to be put on as a replacement/duplicate.

True. There will be a vin number stamped on left frame rail, located in front wheel well area.
