As long as the car is over 25 years old and has the original VIN stamped, your son can ship one back to the states.

I’m near Cambridge, England in East Anglia. I have a few friends stationed at Ramstein, Germany who come over to England and buy Defenders to take back to Germany.

Quad cab = desirable, RHD = not desirable (granted, l drive one, but l'm pretty fly for a white guy...lol, but overall...they bring less $ here), new paint job = hidden/buyer beware stuff, not many frame pictures = rust (normally).
Judging from the two underside picture provided...it hasn't had much maintenance (besides rear shocks and undercoating/paint), the bump-stops are rusted away, rear axle ball-joint looks originally and boot is rooted out, frame rail looks suspicious by fuel tank. I'd certainly never, ever pay $50K for one in this condition. Plus, it has the wrong hood (if originality is an issue for you).
Now, if it's close by...l'd certainly go look at it and drive it around the block...just for experience. The more you drive and the more you look...the better. Check the doors along bottom side for rust and where window frame meets door panel along latching side, frame rails at rear cross member (bumper), bulkhead below windshield and front frame rails where bumper attaches.

Couple more thoughts...for that type of money...the seller is nearing a totally restored 110 quad cab investment...and l'd expect maintenance records up the whaazoo. Plus, upper end was rebuilt...what exactly did they do?...head machining and gasket? At 200K...my mind says the bottom end is probably nearing its life cycle. And, if you are selling a Defender for that price...l'd expect 50 photos...not 10 or 12. Plus, detailed picture of the paint job, before and during would be a nice touch.
