Default 1997 TD5 Defender losing acceleration intermittently

I have a 1997 TD5 Land Rover Defender 110 that has a strange acceleration issue, in that it drives fine sometimes but then after some driving (say 20 minutes) it starts to lose acceleration. It is almost like it would be if you were driving in heavy mud. After the car sits for a while, it is okay again, but then after 20 minutes or so of driving again, it's back. The clutch also seems to get a little stiffer but that could just be me. Any help is greatly appreciated as I have to order parts from Europe and have them shipped to the Caribbean, ie there isn't much wiggle room on getting the wrong diagnosis and then associated parts, and then having to order other parts etc. side note: when driving and either with the clutch engaged or in neutral, the car coasts easily.
