I would think a 300tdi would be pretty easy to find in the UK, not sure about if you had to source it local.

I've read some rumors about the 2.5TD being weak and the block cracking.

I was looking and I think the 300tdi looks great and you can find them about anywhere in the UK which is good. Now is there a certain year group of engines I have to stick to? I'd like to get the newest one possible. And I've seen a lot of parts for conversion kits online but I don't know where I should look exactly. Is there a site the has the best prices or parts to help me put in the engine?

So- if I get a hold of a 300tdi with the mounts will it just fit right into place? Or is it different spacing?

If I get a 2002 Td5 from a discovery would it be possible to install it in my Defender? I know it's significantly different but all I really need is a configuration that has more horsepower and is reliable. Any ideas? Thanks again for all the help and input guys!

You should post some pictures of your defender, I personally would love to see it.

And if you do this engine swap you should document it with pictures as well, i'm sure there are lots of other people how would be intrigued by it also.

Also, get a video from the side of the highway with your defender keeping pace with a porsche afterwords lol!

Haha! I will post some pictures with any relevance soon. I've actually found a mechanic who specializes in Land Rovers here who was more than willing to help me.

The plan is to switch it to a 200tdi with a bigger intercooler and some other new pieces to give it a little more speed. I did a little more research and I should be able to get it to move pretty fast but the overall aerodynamics of the vehicle (or lack thereof) do place some limitations on its top speed.

But I'll get as much info on here as I can. There's still a lot of work to do but I'm glad to have a mechanic with experience helping me!
