Default D1 fuel pump in D90??

Hello all, I have a 1997 NAS Defender 90 that has been sitting for many years in a garage, It turns over just fine and it will run off starter fluid, but I am having weird readings on the Fuel gauge, So im assuming that its the fuel pump thats gone bad after these years. Its reading full sometimes then empty. I put some gas in the tank and still nothing. I am wondering if I could fit a Disco 1 fuel pump in the Defender? I know they are the same platform basically so maybe? Thank you.
Has the 4.0L V8 and only has 50k miles...

Yes they are the same fuel pump ESR 3928 - you can get an API pump/sender unit from partsgeek for about $130 - you will want to get a new seal too
