Default D90 quit on me today

Hey guys, I have a 1997 D90 that is pretty much stock. She quit on me today. Before I go ahead and get her towed, I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas on what happened. I was driving home from work. Maybe 5 minutes into the drive I lost all power. I was able to coast into a parking lot and stop. It seemed like it was out of gas, but it definitely was not. The radio was still playing, but pretty much everything was dead. When I stopped there were no warning lights on the dash or anything with teh key in any position and it would not crank at all. I checked as many fuses as I could, all of the ones under the hood were fine. I called for a ride and as I waited I tried to crank it again. After about 30 minutes it decided that it would crank again, but was cranking as if there was either no fuel or spark. When my ride finally arrived probably 45 minutes later I gave it one more try and it started and seemed to be running fine. I decided to abandon ship and not try to drive because I didn't want it to cut out again uphill on a narrow road. So what do you suppose the problem could be? I drive this thing 5 or so days a week and it's been reliable up tp this point.

I was planning to have it towed to 4x4 Center in Burlington, VT which is not too far away from me. But if we can establish that is some relay or something that I can access myself, I'd rather just pick one (or two) up and deal with it myself. I need to do something with it tomorrow, can't just leave it where it is.

It's toast and likely not fixable. Send it to me and I will dispose of it properly.

My first guess if all was well before today is a loose battery cable or even a worn ignition switch - maybe fuel pump is going - clogged fuel filter - fuel pressure regulator - but I would check those battery cables - let us know

Something similar happened to me in my classic. It ended up being the rotor arm in the distributor (could also be the cap). Truck just stopped as if it ran out of gas.

I have not heard the CPS would cause it to die from a at speed running - crank but no start yes - but that doesnt sound like this situation

It started and ran like normal this morning, cranked but wouldn't start this evening. Getting it towed in the morning.

If it will not crank over and your instrument panel is dead (no lights at all, with key on), check battery cables, especially ground cable to frame and battery condition. Play around with the ignition switch, wiggling the key. For it to die while running, you're losing voltage somewhere.

They've been really busy, so not yet. Lots of sweet Land Rovers there. I saw an 88 with a Reynolds Marine sticker which was cool since I grew up just around the corner.
