Default Defender 110 steering

Greetings,
Have a new question for all of you. I have a 1986 110 that I had retrofitted with power steering last year. The problem I have is that I have a lot of play in the steering wheel. Really makes it difficult to drive with so much play. Is there some way I can adjust the steering box to get rid of the excess play? Also the slave cylinder for the clutch is leaking, the only problem is I don't know where its leaking from as there is not any obvious fluid thats visual. I do have to refill very often. Any ideas on this would also be greatly accepted.

Thanks, David

Well I guess since I have a lack of responses I'm out of luck.

Hey David,

The leak in your slave cylinder will be the seal into the bell housing (basically the leak is inside the bell housing so you won't be able to see it. The only sign of leakage is the visible lack of fluid in the resevour.
You can get a seal from LR and remove the slave easily from the bellhousing to fix.

On the steering front, there isn't really an adjustment for the power steering. If the power steering unit was from an old landy you may have wear inside the PSU, which will need a swap out. Or if it is leaking you can get a seal kit (but it is likely to be wear).

First check it's not the drop arm retaining nut, drop arm ball joint or the drag link end balljoints that are causing the play. This is significantly more likely than a dead or dying steering box
